About the Role:

Gusto is looking for a highly skilled and motivated People Insights Data Partner with extensive experience (ideally 10+ years) applying their expertise in a fast-paced business environment. As a member of the People Insights team, you’ll play a crucial role in leveraging data management and analytics to shape the future of Gusto’s People strategy and operations across the talent lifecycle. Through compelling data storytelling, intuitive self-service tools, and rigorous analysis, your work will drive measurable improvements in talent development, employee experience, recruiting, employee listening, and organizational health.

The ideal candidate is a skilled storyteller with a strong analytical mindset, top notch coding skills, and a dedication to well-structured, documented data. You are passionate about translating complex data and business opportunities into clear, actionable insights that inform decisions and deliver impact at the highest levels.

In this role, you’ll partner with Analytics Engineering, People Leadership, business leaders, and cross-functional teams to shape Gusto’s People data ecosystem. You will deliver trusted insights, design and track metrics that deepen our understanding of Gustie performance and experience, and ensure data directly informs decisions across the employee lifecycle.

You will take ownership of the Talent Development measurement ecosystem—from designing program measurement strategies to collaborating with Analytics Engineering on scalable data architecture that supports L&D, executive and leadership coaching, and future skills planning. By applying SQL, Tableau, Python, and statistical methods, you will measure program impact and uncover drivers of attraction, development, engagement, and retention.

Through this work, you’ll have the opportunity to shape the future of Gusto’s talent strategy—how we attract, develop, engage, and retain top talent.

Here’s what you’ll do day-to-day:

  • Lead Analytical Domains: Own complex measurement, reporting, and analytical challenges. Define the analytical roadmap for a given domain, establish structures and processes, and push People Insights at Gusto to the next level.
  • Influence & Strategic Partnership: Effectively influence cross-functional partners and senior leaders by surfacing critical decisions that can be addressed with data, aligning priorities, and driving strategies that support long-term organizational objectives.
  • Data Thought Partnership: Collaborate with People Leadership across Recruiting, Talent Development, Community & Inclusion, Comp & Benefits, and other domains to translate program opportunities into data-driven solutions—always ensuring insights are integrated across the employee lifecycle.
  • Problem Structuring: Define ambiguous business problems, frame the right analytical approach, and identify the data, methods, and metrics needed to deliver clarity and direction.
  • Analysis & Insights: Analyze complex people data to uncover meaningful insights, identify trends, and highlight drivers that inform Gusto’s People and talent strategy.
  • Reporting & Visualization: Design, build, and maintain dashboards and reporting solutions that answer critical business questions across the talent lifecycle (e.g., recruiting, turnover, DEI, employee movement).
  • Data Modeling: Partner with Analytics Engineering to design and implement scalable data models that enable consistent, reliable analysis and self-service reporting.
  • Stakeholder Partnership: Collaborate closely with People Leadership, HRBPs, and cross-functional partners to ensure insights are actionable, relevant, and tied to business outcomes.
  • Enablement: Strengthen data fluency across the People Team by coaching stakeholders on how to interpret and use people data to drive evidence-based decisions.
  • Builder Mindset & Curiosity: Demonstrate responsiveness, curiosity, and ownership—iterating quickly and delivering high-quality data products. Explore and pilot new approaches, including advanced analytics and AI, to unlock value and help shape how People Insights drives impact.

Here’s what we're looking for:

  • Experience: 10+ years in data analytics or data science, with demonstrated expertise in People Analytics or a related field.
  • Technical Skills: Advanced SQL skills and ability to write efficient queries; strong Tableau experience with a track record of building scalable, intuitive dashboards; working proficiency in Python for light statistical analysis and automation.
  • Statistical Methods: Hands-on experience applying correlation, regression, and other statistical techniques to evaluate program impact and inform strategic decisions.
  • Data Modeling & Governance: Proven ability to partner with Analytics or Data Engineering to design scalable data models; commitment to data integrity through rigorous quality checks, audits, and governance best practices.
  • Communication & Storytelling: Strong data storytelling skills—able to synthesize complex analyses into clear, compelling insights and communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders, including senior leaders.
  • Strategic Mindset: Demonstrated ability to connect data to business outcomes, influence People strategy, and serve as a thought partner to HR and business stakeholders.
  • Collaboration & Impact: Track record of building trusted cross-functional partnerships and driving alignment across stakeholders with varying levels of data fluency.
  • Project Management: Excellent organizational skills with experience managing multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.

Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors including candidate experience and expertise and may vary from the amounts listed above.

Gusto has physical office spaces in Denver, San Francisco, and New York City.
