We are looking for a fabulous Payroll Administrator to join our friendly & close-knit Payroll team on a permanent basis in our Melbourne office!

The role

Nous has employing entities in Australia, the United Kingdom and Canada. The Australian based Payroll team works within the broader Finance team and is responsible for processing payroll across all entities, supported by external partners outside Australia.

This Payroll Administrator role plays an important part in delivering accurate and timely payroll across several smaller pay groups. You will report into the Payroll Coordinator, working in a broader friendly and close-knit Payroll team consisting of a Payroll Manager, Payroll Officer and Payroll Coordinator. This isa great opportunity for someone with 1–2 years’ payroll experience who has a strong grasp of payroll fundamentals and is ready to build depth and confidence in their practice.

You’ll play a key role in running monthly and fortnightly pay runs, while supporting a range of payroll and administrative activities. The technical requirements are clear and well defined, with a strong emphasis on precision, consistency, and care in execution.

This role sits within a hands on, process driven payroll environment. Payroll at Nous is detailed and people critical work, and accuracy matters deeply.

We’re actively investing in system improvements and greater automation, but meaningful change takes time in a complex professional services environment. In the short to medium term, payroll delivery relies on well defined manual processes, reconciliations, and quality checks, and this role plays an important part in ensuring everything runs smoothly.

Key responsibilities

  • Processing payroll for multiple smaller employee groups across regular pay cycles
  • Processing new starters and managing payroll related employee changes
  • Validating payroll data and manual inputs
  • Balancing and reconciling payroll outputs, including timesheets
  • Responding to payroll and personnel queries in a timely and professional manner
  • Assisting with basic payroll reporting and administration
  • Supporting the Payroll team with ad hoc tasks as required

We are looking for someone with:

  • 1–2 years’ experience in payroll processing
  • Sound understanding of Australian payroll fundamentals
  • Experience with payroll systems such as Micropay, Sage People or similar (desirable)
  • Showcases resilience, is adaptable and enjoys continuous learning
  • Intermediate Excel skills
  • High attention to detail and ability to work confidently with manual processes, as well as within a team environment
  • Ability to manage routine, process driven tasks with consistency
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work with a range of stakeholders
  • Good time management skills and ability to prioritise workload to meet deadlines

Flexibility

This is a full‑time role with flexibility to be undertaken with a mix of working from a Nous office and working from home. Applications are welcome from candidates based in Melbourne.
