The Role: 

Our site in Toronto, Canada is seeking an Operations Site Director to join our team. The Toronto site synthesizes organometallic precursors used to deposit thin films during semiconductor fabrication. In this role you will lead a team in a fast-paced, high-energy, and professionally rewarding environment while driving the organization towards a continuously improving and operationally mature culture.  

 

What You’ll Do: 

  • Lead the Toronto Specialty Chemicals operations teams and be the over-all Site Director 

  • Be accountable for the safety, quality, cost, throughput, and shipment of synthesized products for the demanding semiconductor industry 

  • Translate manufacturing strategies into operational objectives, goals, and metrics to drive performance improvements in the areas of EHS, quality, delivery, and cost to enable the future profitable growth of the businesses 

  • Lead a cross functional team consisting of manufacturing technicians, engineers, materials handlers, logistics technicians, and maintenance personnel 

  • Coordinate and align with internal and external stakeholders on critical operational, supply chain, and commercial requirements 

  • Partner with Research & Development and Engineering teams in bringing new products and processes from pilot to high-volume manufacturing (HVM) 

  • Lead and drive continuous improvement for all facets of operations, including particular focus on: 

  • Lean and Six Sigma manufacturing principles 

  • Statistical Process Controls and enhanced manufacturing capabilities 

  • Optimizing cost structure and performance 

  • Reliability improvements and implementation of Predictive Maintenance programs to drive Overall Equipment Efficiency (OEE) 

  • Critical Spares management 

  • Systems Automation and Ergonomic improvements  

What We Seek: 

  • Someone with experience aligning organizational resources towards stated goals for safety, quality, cost, delivery, and productivity  

  • Experience developing mature operational processes and systems while improving operational capabilities and stability 

  • The ability to enhance and improve business continuity and contingency preparedness within the areas of production processes, supply chain, labor, and logistics 

  • Proven track record of enhancing employee engagement and technical expertise with the workforce to meet expectations of a rapidly growing business within the demanding semiconductor industry 

  • Effectively utilize data and predictive maintenance techniques to minimize unplanned downtime 

  • Ability to exceed business and customer expectations by delivering better than industry results in safety, quality, and on-time performance for all products  

  • Ability to effectively develop leaders and manage teams through a culture of sustained continuous improvement 

Outstanding Candidates Will Have: 

  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry or similar area of study is required 

  • At least 10 years of experience working in manufacturing operations, with continuously increasing responsibility and oversight. Prior experience as a site manager in chemical manufacturing highly preferred 

  • At least 8 years of experience in a management role and the successful development of manufacturing and operations personnel 

  • Semiconductor industry is a plus, specialty chemicals/gases, pharmaceutical or other industry with focus on strong quality systems is preferred 

  • Experience with New Product Introduction (NPI) activities, product scale-up, and product commercialization strongly preferred 

  • Proven experience leading cross-functional teams to achieve business objectives 

  • Lean and/or Six Sigma experience and/or certification is a plus
