The Operations Manager position is responsible for proper development of the transportation department and the production department with regards to both personnel and process capabilities.  The position will entail a forward-thinking view of strategic plans for all operations along with the planning to carry this vision to success.  The position must also ensure Company Values are integrated and upheld, and that there is proper alignment and collaborative support with other operating departments.    

Responsibilities:

  • Assume responsibility for maintaining and improving plant efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Proactively plan and strategize capital improvement projects for the plant and partner with Engineering resources on design & implementation plans.
  • Review the coordination of events that impact processing (ie. Yield testing, customized processing, maintenance down periods, capital installations, etc)
  • Review and monitor plant operations Key Performance Indicators for volume processed, processing hours, yields, man hours, maintenance backlog and other.
  • Ensure compliance with all company and regulatory policies and procedures.
  • Oversee responsibility for leading Production, Transloading, Transportation and Maintenance teams.
  • Lead and develop direct reports to create bench strength at all levels in line with the business strategy.
  • Effectively assist direct reports in establishing and meeting goals and objectives with regards to quality, throughput, minimizing downtime and managing backlog.
  • Facilitate team meetings to address employee and production areas for improvement.
  • Drive employee engagement, effective communications, and positive employee relations.
  • Ensure we operate our processes within parameters.
  • Assume responsibility for the Production, Transloading, Transportation and Maintenance team’s budget.
  • Lead the preparation of the budget and respect the annual budget.
  • Justifies investments by presenting business case and payback period.
  • Ensure projects are executed on time and within expectations.
  • Develop business plans & strategies to ensure budgets are met.
  • Demonstrating abilities to manage the business with respect to growth and change.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Business or equivalent experience. 
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a management role.
  • Successful safety mindset and a proactive thought process are critical as operating a safe plant is our priority.
  • Focus on the efficiency and effectiveness of our continuous flow production facilities, identify opportunities, and put plans in place to obtain those opportunities.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop, coach, and motivate human resources.
  • Proven decision-making utilizing analytics to support decision making process.
  • Ensure effective collaboration within operations and with other business partners.
  • Strong communications skills both written & verbal and the ability to communicate with all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to organize, set priorities, track, and hold team accountable for plans created.
  • Ability to readily adapt to the changing business needs.
