The MySQL DBA is responsible for the performance, integrity, and security of MySQL databases, including installation, configuration, performance monitoring, and troubleshooting. Other duties involve ensuring database security, conducting regular backups, collaborating with developers, and providing support for critical systems.
SUMMARY:
The MySQL DBA will be responsible for ensuring the performance, integrity, and security of our MySQL databases. This role involves planning and developing databases as well as troubleshooting any issues on behalf of the users. Your primary objective is to maintain the availability and consistent performance of our databases.
We are looking for candidates who are as excited about pushing their own development and working on a geographically distributed team where most of the communication is happening online.
WHAT WILL YOU BE DOING:
- Installing, configuring, and upgrading MySQL server software and related products.
- Monitoring database performance, implementing changes, and applying new patches and versions when required.
- Ensuring the security and integrity of databases, including creating and managing users, roles, and permissions.
- Performing regular backups and recovery operations.
- Developing and maintaining database standards, documentation, and procedures.
- Conducting database tuning and performance monitoring.
- Designing and implementing disaster recovery plans.
- Providing 24/7 support for critical production systems.
- Collaborating with developers to design and optimise SQL queries.
- Troubleshooting database-related issues and providing timely solutions.
- Implementing and managing database replication and clustering.
- Conducting data migrations and ETL processes.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR:
- 6+ years as a MySQL DBA or in a similar role.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field.
- In-depth knowledge of MySQL database management.
- Proficiency in database design, backup/restore, performance tuning, and replication.
- Strong SQL and database scripting skills.
- Familiarity with Linux/Unix operating systems.
- Understanding of database security management and data protection principles.
- Experience with both On-Premise and Cloud database solutions (e.g., Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, AWS RDS, Google Cloud SQL).
- Ability to work in high-demand and high-availability system environments.
- Familiarity with database replication and clustering using Galera Cluster.
- Experience with MariaDB.
- Knowledge of ProxySQL and/or other load-balancing technologies
- Knowledge of MySQL High availability setup and management
- Hands-on with database monitoring tools such as Percona, PRTG, MySQL Enterprise Monitor, etc.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical abilities.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Proficient in English communication, both written and verbal.
AWESOME BUT NOT REQUIRED:
- Certifications such as Oracle MySQL Database Administrator, MySQL Developer, or equivalent.
- Knowledge of other database systems (e.g., PostgreSQL, MongoDB) is a plus.
