The Market Intelligence Manager gathers, analyzes and presents market intelligence for the Individual Insurance and Guaranteed Wealth Solutions portfolios in Canada. Using market research, proprietary studies, stakeholder feedback and industry sales results, etc. the Market Intelligence Manager clearly outlines Manulife’s position in the marketplace and summary implications which help inform further insights and our strategic direction.

Position Responsibilities:

Competitive and marketing intelligence monitoring – 25%

  • Independently support competitive insights activities for all business areas within Individual Insurance by actively gathering, analyzing and disseminating competitor intelligence and derived insights, for topics including, but not limited to, products, pricing, distribution, operations, marketing, etc. Product lines include Life, Living Benefits, Segregated Funds, Guaranteed Investment Accounts and Payout Annuities.

  • Actively gather, analyze and disseminate external industry-related intelligence and derived insights for topics including, but not limited to, innovation, artificial intelligence, regulatory, advice, consumers, disruptors, non-competitor specific topics, etc.

  • Proactive identification and timely sharing of intelligence based on industry/market actions from known sources (and identifying new ones), through deliverables including, but not limited to, semi-monthly bulletin, competitive alerts, internal business reporting, etc.

Data gathering, reporting and analysis- 50%

  • Conduct research activities for business cases, strategy development, product roadmaps and new growth initiatives to inform Insurance, Guaranteed Wealth Solutions and Canadian Segment business development opportunities.

  • Robust level of analysis conducted primarily independently by making connections between disparate sources such as industry sales results, Manulife internal sales results and metrics across functional areas as well as Manulife procured and public research.

  • Leverage AI tools to uncover insights, trends, etc. as well as to improve efficiency in data gathering analysis and dissemination/communication:

    • Test, learn and implement solutions using available GenAI tools

    • Collaborate with Data Scientists to develop GenAI solutions that solve complex business problems and drive measurable value

    • Partner with architects and technical leaders to design high-performing GenAI applications aligned with business objectives.

  • Uncover insights and nuances through direct comparisons, data manipulation, recognition of trends/patterns or notable changes, inclusion of additional identified/relevant source material, etc. to generate and deepen insights with implications, impacts, recommendations and conversation starters.

  • Deliver these insights in timely and clearly articulated and visualized stories, that drive, influence and generate internal dialogue for strategic plans, experiences and sales enablement. Examples include:

    • Monthly industry application volume summary

    • Quarterly Market share presentation

    • Assisting with internal sales reporting and analytics dashboards and ad hoc inquiries

    • Comparative assessments for specific strategic initiatives such as digital capabilities, distribution approach, advisor compensation and incentive programs, product feature and benefits

Process maintenance and improvement 15%

  • Actively maintain insights assets for market/industry related topics in dashboards, tracking tables, SharePoint, etc.

  • Identify and develop and continuously support updates/organization of competitor documents including but not limited to rate tables, heat maps, product comparisons, historical promotion tracking, digital experience enhancements, competitive alerts, etc.

  • Stay current on emerging AI technologies and evaluate their application to improve processes.

  • Contribute to the design/betterments of information sources and processes in team repositories and those used by stakeholders to access competitive intelligence.

  • Implement of new insights assets and processes that will become a part of standard day-to-day activities and evaluate/implement continuous improvement for owned processes by leveraging use of existing analysis tools and Artificial Intelligence.

Relationship-building and communication – 10%

  • Build and maintain business partner relationships across all Individual Insurance business areas, maintaining working knowledge of business activities/plans, deepen engagement by recognizing opportunities to address stakeholder needs while pro-actively raising opportunities or threats based on completed analysis.

  • Consult with peers at other organizations, at industry associations, service providers, etc. to better understand industry trends and results and assist with presenting Manulfie’s perspective on key issues and opportunities

  • Manage the team's shared mailbox by owning responses and/or seeking input from relevant stakeholders.

  • Provide team representation in cross-functional initiatives, field readiness, project planning, etc.

Required Qualifications:

  • At least 5 years of experience in business analysis, competitive intelligence or product research

  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and contextualize information through critical thinking skills.

  • Highly inquisitive with a natural curiosity to effectively solve complex problems through research and insights.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel and PowerPoint, familiarity with using Power BI and a strong technical aptitude for digital/online intelligence software/tools.

  • Proficiency in Artificial Intelligence concepts and tools.

  • Demonstrated willingness to challenge the status quo.

  • An understanding of most Individual Insurance and Guaranteed Wealth products and the industry.

  • Undergraduate degree

  • Bilingualism (English and French) is a strong asset. If the successful candidate is in Québec, proficiency in both languages will be required to support clients from various provinces outside of Quebec.

Salary range is expected to be between

$85,300.00 CAD - $135,300.00 CAD
