ERM is seeking a motivated Senior Consultant, Risk Management to join our. This is an opportunity to utilize your established relationships with companies and governments and technical experience to provide leadership, strategic direction, strong risk management and project management to a variety of projects. An interest in applying existing knowledge and expertise to solve complex challenges in the Mining, Energy and Public sectors is critical. As a senior leader, you will serve as a representative of our company, and play a key role in building our business and providing leadership to projects through their lifecycle, while networking with ERM's global team to share best practices across the industry. RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide high quality consulting services to existing clients and contribute to business development activities specifically in Canada’s North with new, previous, and existing clients.
  • Lead and/or support a wide variety of mining and energy projects related to sustainable development, natural resource management, and risk management. Expected project activities include report writing, undertaking and organizing data collection and inforamtion, stakeholder engagement activities, data and literature review, project planning and development of recommendations for clients.
  • Conducting consultation and information collection activities, including leading interviews and surveys, and supporting and facilitating meetings and workshops, including multi-party engagements involving Indigenous peoples and organizations.
  • Support clean energy, climate change adaptation and risk management projects in the North.
  • Provide technical expertise for closure and reclamation planning at all stages of mine life.
  • Provide oversight and quality control for data collection, management, reduction and analysis. Prepare and deliver presentations, and lead meetings.
  • Be accountable to ensure deliverables achieve client expectations for scope, budget, schedule, and quality.
  • Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams of ERM national and global practitioners to execute projects and to deepen relationships with ERM key clients to expand ERM’s profile and market share in Canada’s North (through a combination of excellence in technical delivery and business development support).
  • Develop a network of professional contacts, working to expand this network over time, identifying potential business opportunities, and contributing to proposals.
  • Mentor junior-level and mid-level consulting staff to develop their skill sets including technical skills, project experience, and general consulting and decision-making skills.
  • When required, assume responsibility for project management, including managing work plan execution, task delegation and direction, subcontractor management, health & safety protocol management, tracking actual expenditures vs budget, quality review of deliverables, and liaising with clients.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelors in engineering, geology, science, or related discipline; professional registration (e.g., P.Eng, P.Geo, or P.Ag.) would be an asset.
  • 10+ years of relevant experience, including industry experience for a mining or energy company or government to understand operational needs.
  • Expertise in mine closure planning, in particular the development of strategic closure goals, closure objectives and associated criteria.
  • Expertise in risk assessment and risk management and supporting prioritization and decision making exercises would be considered a strong asset.
  • Strong project management skills (e.g., development of work plans, budgets, schedules, and project controls) and experience working as part of an integrated team of consultants and engineering companies to develop pre-feasibility and feasibility level studies considered an asset.
  • Ability to situate technical issues within a broader socio-economic, policy or business context.
  • Experience with engagement activities with multiple stakeholders. Ability to conduct information collection interviews effectively.
  • Experience conducting third-party reviews against industry best practices, regulatory requirements and corporate standards.
  • Experience developing and implementing environmental management systems and plans for projects in various stages of mine life (e.g. construction, operations, and/or closure).
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills, as evidenced by clear and respectful communications with colleagues and clients.
  • Well-developed writing skills, including ability to undertake technical writing that is accessible to a general audience.
  • Additional language skills (e.g., French and Spanish) are an asset.
  • Experience working within Yukon, Northwest Territories and Nunavut environmental regulatory frameworks an asset.
