About the role

We’re looking for a Manager, Tax Reporting & Compliance

As a Manager, Tax Reporting & Compliance, you will be responsible for managing the preparation and filing of domestic compliance, preparation of domestic provisions, and managing domestic tax authority audits. This manager will also participate in planning and advisory projects for the business units.

What you'll do here:

  • Oversee the tax accounting and reporting cycle including provisioning and reporting. Liaise with other finance teams in the organization.

  • Prepare and review corporate tax returns, forms and elections for Canadian corporate group.

  • Review instalment calculations and ensure they are paid in a timely manner.

  • Prepare responses for tax authority audit queries.

  • Complete due diligence analysis on potential acquisition targets and work with the Director to determine most tax-efficient acquisition approach of targeted Canadian entities.

  • Determine accounting impact of closed transactions, prepare memorandums and calculations and ensure transactions recorded correctly.

  • Oversee the integration, wind up and dissolution of certain acquired entities.

  • Provide support, advice and training to business units regarding application of tax laws applicable to federal and provincial jurisdictions.

  • Assist the Director in monitoring Canadian tax policies and interpret tax laws and regulations. Follow up on analysis of taxation risks and supervise the implementation of action plans with the business units.

What you bring to the table:

  • Working towards or completion of master’s degree in taxation or CPA In-depth Tax Program

  • Minimum 4 years' experience in corporate taxes

  • Experience with large public corporations or insurance companies or financial institutions

  • In-Depth knowledge of applicable tax laws and regulations in Federal and provincial jurisdictions.

  • Must have strong written and oral communication skills

  • Experience in managing a team and knowledge of Taxprep (tax compliance software).

  • For candidates located in Quebec, bilingualism is required considering the necessity to interact on a regular basis with English-speaking colleagues across the country.
