As an Engineering Manager in Core Edge Processing, you will oversee, develop, and scale the team which runs our cardholder facing real-time serving stack. You will coach the team, provide technical constraints, give performance related evaluative feedback and participate in the design and building of the next generation cloud first architecture.
This role can be performed remotely within the Toronto, ON or Vancouver, BC Metro Areas. We’d love for you to join us!
What You’ll Do
- Develop a vision, strategy, and roadmap to meet business objectives with existing or emerging technologies with other stakeholders and partners
- Work with team members and partners on analyzing technical and business problems (new or with existing systems) in the core payments edge platform identifying opportunities, designing ways to build new systems or make existing systems scalable, reliable, and performant to well serve customers, considering both short term and long term needs.
- Join forces with others on implementations, all the way to production deployment and execution.
- Demonstrate strong leadership. Build and grow a healthy, highly performant and customer-centric team, attract high talents, provide effective coaching to team members.
- Advocate and practice engineering principles including Security/Privacy, Quality, Reliability, Usability, Scalability/Performance, Productivity/Efficiency, and Operability.
- Define success metrics and service level objectives, as well as track them toward agreed targets and contractual customer facing obligations.
- Operational Excellence: monitoring & operating production services including understanding user experience and ensuring happy customers.
- Contribute to building Marqeta’s technology brand through internal and external initiatives.

Who You Are
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and teaching skills
- 5-7 years of software engineering experience
- 2+ years of leadership experience in an engineering role
- Strong understanding of secure software development life cycle and agile methodologies
- Exemplary critical thinking and problem solving skills
- Proven experience in managing and delivering large-scale projects in a high throughput high availability environment
Nice to Have
- Payments processing experience including ISO8583 standards
- Expertise in TCP/IP or other network fundamentals
- Experience in Java
- Experience with infrastructure-as-code such as Terraform
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related field or equivalent experience

Compensation and Benefits
When determining salaries, we consider several factors including, but not limited to, skills, prior experience, and work location. The new-hire base salary range for this position, reflected in CAD, is: 148,900 - 186,100.
