The Work
Reporting to the Associate Director, Risk Reporting, the incumbent will be responsible for implementing, developing, and enhancing various reporting and analytic capabilities. This may include developing a set of brand-new reports and analytics as the Bank progresses on becoming an AIRB (Advanced Internal Ratings Based) bank. Examples include model monitoring reporting with respect to the enterprise credit risk models, risk appetite, risk-adjusted measurement analytics and reporting, and insightful financial/portfolio credit and non-credit risk analysis. The incumbent will work with numerous stakeholders including senior executives, risk managers, auditors, and various business units to capture all necessary business requirements and decisions, implement feedback, and ensure all analytical and reporting findings are communicated to the necessary participants.
The incumbent will also be accountable for the team’s business-as-usual (“BAU”) monthly or quarterly initiatives, and ensure all deliverables are met according to schedule. The incumbent is encouraged to continually think strategically on further enhancement of current reports to ensure compliance with the latest regulatory requirements, incorporate emerging risks, and optimize report processes to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and speed.
The individual will leverage leading-edge technologies including Microsoft Power BI, Microsoft SQL, Azure SQL, Python, PowerPoint, and Excel to develop innovation solutions. The incumbent will work with very large datasets coming from multiple databases of credit risk related historical data to produce insightful analytics and tell a story using sophisticated reporting tools. The role will be highly focused on risk reporting, but is not limited to other enterprise risk projects to assist with the identification and assessment of risks throughout the organization.
The core parts of your role would be to:
- Project-Level Analytics and Reporting (70%)
- Assist in the development and implementation of new reporting and risk management capabilities under the Advanced Internal Ratings Based (AIRB) approach. This includes: Risk appetite reporting, Risk-adjusted measurement or KRIs (e.g., RAROC, RORAC), Risk weighted asset analytics, Economic capital, and Internal Capital Adequacy Assessment Process (ICAAP) reporting
- Work with various stakeholders including senior executives, risk managers, the businesses, auditors, and information technology to design/develop analytical reports. Communication with various parties to obtain feedback and decision making, and ensure stakeholders are informed
- Conduct thorough testing of reports including data outputs, calculations and transformations prior to report implementation
- Ensure proper requirements, procedures and process documentations are drafted and maintained for audit/validation purposes
- Utilized reporting BI tools (e.g., Microsoft Power BI) to support report automation and efficiency
- Utilized programming languages (e.g., Microsoft SQL, Python) to complete quick turnaround and accurate analytics
- Support ad hoc analytics, research or reporting where required
- Develop all necessary business, functional and technical requirements document to support Regulatory and Board Reporting
- Provide thought leadership on developing the back-end script, perform data transformations, and integrate all required data elements into Regulatory and Board Reporting
- Develop the test strategy and oversee all phases of user acceptance testing and end-to-end testing of the integrated process and data outputs; thoroughly review and approve test case results for reporting
- Lead and take accountability for the quarterly reporting process by working closely with the CRO, VP, Credit Risk, and other senior management stakeholders on producing the Board of Director risk presentations
- BAU Reporting (30%)
- Complete monthly/quarterly business-as-usual reporting and meet required timelines (e.g., management reports, Board reports)
- Work with data providers (e.g., Enterprise Data Management, Finance, etc.) to ensure all necessary data inputs are obtained for the report, and work with senior management to integrate feedback and inform progress
- Continuously think of optimization strategies to enhance and automate current reports and processes
Let's Talk About You!
- Minimum 7+ years of experience in a risk management role in a financial services environment (preferably mortgage lending)
- Degree in a business (Finance, Accounting, Commerce) or a quantitative discipline (Applied Mathematics or Statistics, Engineering, Computer Science)
- Professional designations (or in progress) in FRM, CFA, or others related to risk management would be ideal
- Good understanding and experience with credit risk analytics and methodologies, internal assessment of capital, risk adjusted measurements and KRIs, risk appetite, and stress testing
- Strong analytical ability for portfolio monitoring and stress testing
- Knowledge in A-IRB, Economic/Regulatory Capital and Stress Testing is an asset
- Experience working with large data sets in SQL (data cleansing, reconciliation, validation).
- Some understanding of risk management concepts, methodologies, and regulatory frameworks including requirements from the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision (BCBS) standards and OSFI Capital Adequacy Requirements (CAR) guideline under the AIRB regime
- Fluent in SQL (MS SQL and Azure SQL), excel, and PowerBI and familiarity in Python for data wrangling and analysis
- High attention to detail, ability to review and recommend actions to solve business problems
- Advanced communication skills sufficient to convey complex information and concepts into succinct opinions to a senior executive audience
- Proven ability to communicate clearly (verbally and written), tailoring presentations to the audience
- Strong organization, time management and multi-tasking skills; managing multiple deadlines at one time
- Comfortable working collaboratively in a team and creating an inclusive environment with people at all levels
- Hands-on and detail-oriented reporting of risk numbers to senior management
- Self-starter, capable of independently executing a stream of work within the context of a larger initiative
