What you’ll be doing

As part of the Capital Markets Operations team, the Manager, Repo Margin & Collateral Management will lead the daily margin and collateral function supporting the firm’s repo activity across bilateral, centrally cleared and tri-party arrangements. You will oversee accurate exposure calculation, margin call issuance and response, collateral allocation, substitution, valuation, settlement and reconciliation, ensuring obligations are met within contractual terms, market cut-offs and Service Level Agreements (SLAs). You will manage exceptions and disputes, maintain strong controls over collateral eligibility, concentration, haircuts and liquidity, and provide timely escalation of material exposure, settlement and operational risk. The role partners closely with Repo Trading, Treasury, Credit, Market Risk, Legal, Technology, Finance, settlements teams, custodians, counterparties and market infrastructures. You will provide leadership to an experienced team, build end-to-end capability and succession, and drive a scalable operating model through standardization, automation, data quality and meaningful management information. You will also support the continued evolution of Canada’s secured funding market, including increased use of central clearing and tri-party collateral services, while ensuring operational readiness for new products, clients, regulations and market practices.

At CIBC we enable the work environment most optimal for you to thrive in your role. You’ll have the flexibility to manage your work activities within a hybrid work arrangement where you’ll spend 1-3 days per week on-site, while other days will be remote.

How you’ll succeed
  • Lead with Effectiveness and Authenticity - Lead, coach and develop a high-performing team in a time-sensitive control environment. Set clear accountabilities, manage capacity and coverage, strengthen cross-training and succession, and promote timely escalation and continuous improvement.
  • Margin & Collateral Management - Oversee daily exposure and margin processes, including call validation, agreement, issuance and response; collateral selection and allocation; substitutions; recalls; interest and fee processing; and the settlement and return of collateral. Ensure activity is completed accurately within legal terms, market cut-offs and SLAs.
  • Risk, Controls & Governance - Maintain a strong control framework over collateral eligibility, valuation, haircuts, concentration, wrong-way risk, settlement status and counterparty exposure. Ensure reconciliations, aging, evidence, approvals and escalations are completed, and that material disputes, failed movements and liquidity impacts are actively managed.
  • Problem Solving & Exception Management - Investigate margin differences, pricing and position breaks, ineligible collateral, failed settlements and allocation constraints across internal records, counterparties, custodians and clearing or tri-party platforms. Identify root causes, document resolution paths and drive sustainable remediation.
  • Business Relationships - Build effective partnerships with Trading, Treasury, Credit, Risk, Legal, Technology, Finance, Operations, clients, custodians and market infrastructures. Communicate exposure, collateral needs, disputes and emerging risks clearly to both operational and senior stakeholders.
  • Operational Transformation - Translate business and control requirements into practical process and system enhancements. Improve straight-through processing, workflow, data quality, dashboards and capacity management; support testing, implementation and operational readiness for new products, services and market infrastructure changes.
  • Industry Knowledge & Technical Capability - Apply strong knowledge of repo  economics, collateralized exposure, master agreement terms, Canadian fixed income securities and settlement practices. Experience with bilateral, centrally cleared and tri-party operating models, and with platforms or infrastructures such as Broadridge/BFS, CDCC, CDS, DTC, the Fed, Euroclear, custodians and collateral management utilities, is an asset.
Who you are
  • You are a bold and authentic leader. You develop people through clear expectations, coaching and accountability, and you create an inclusive environment where teams perform at their best.
  • You understand secured financing and collateral. You can connect trade economics, exposure, legal terms, collateral movements, settlement and liquidity impacts across the end-to-end repo lifecycle.
  • You manage risk through disciplined execution. You value strong controls, accurate records and timely escalation, and you remain composed when resolving high-value or time-critical issues.
  • You give meaning to data. You use reconciliations, trends and management information to identify risk, explain drivers and prioritize action.
  • You embrace and champion change. You challenge manual processes, simplify where appropriate and help teams adopt new technology, infrastructure and ways of working.
  • You are driven by collective success. You build trusted relationships across front office, risk, control and operations functions to deliver strong client and business outcomes.
  • You put our clients first. You act with urgency and sound judgment to deliver reliable service while protecting the firm.
  • Values matter to you. You bring your real self to work and live our values - trust, teamwork and accountability.
