Manager II, Engineering

We are looking for an Engineering Manager to lead Verticalized Shopping - an end to end mobile and backend team that makes every Pin actionable, from first spark of inspiration to purchase. You will own the technical vision and execution for shopping experiences that cut across Ads, Content, and Growth, and pioneer how we use genAI to turn messy human inspiration into clear next steps for Pinners. Your team will move fast, ship experiments, and learn in the open to drive utility, retention and revenue, working closely with Product, Design, Data Science and our commerce partnerships. You will hire and grow high caliber engineers, set a high bar for craft and speed, and build simple systems and processes that let the team do the best work of their careers while shaping the future of commerce on Pinterest.

What will you be doing:

• Leading an end to end mobile and backend team that makes every Pin more shoppable and actionable
• Owning the technical roadmap for verticalized shopping across Ads, Content and Growth
• Pioneering how we use genAI to turn inspiration into clear next steps for Pinners
• Driving an experiment led culture that learns fast on utility, retention and revenue
• Hiring growing and inspiring high caliber engineers to do the best work of their careers
• Pioneer the use of generative AI to transform unstructured user inspiration into actionable, shoppable moments, elevating the end-to-end mobile and backend shopping experience.
• Integrate AI-driven personalization and recommendation systems to connect Pinners with relevant products, improving conversion rates and user satisfaction across Ads, Content, and Growth surfaces.
• Lead your team in rapidly designing, prototyping and scaling AI-powered experiments, while building the technical harness, context, retrieval, prompt orchestration, evaluation and guardrails, that makes LLM systems predictable, high quality and production ready.

What we’re looking for:

• 9+ years of experience in software engineering, 3+ years in engineering management leading end to end product teams
• A thought leader and cross functional partner who drives innovation and gets high performance from strong engineers
• Proven experience building large scale distributed systems and mobile experiences in consumer, ads or commerce domains
• Deep comfort with experiments, metrics and ambiguity - you use data and fast iteration to find product market fit
• Excitement about applied genAI and how it can turn content into action for Pinners, merchants and advertisers
• Demonstrated success leveraging generative AI or machine learning to build scalable consumer products, with a strong focus on experiment velocity and quality of recommendations.
• Proven ability to build the technology, processes and playbooks that harness LLMs effectively, giving models the right context and controls to produce reliable, high-quality outputs.
• Enthusiasm for creating frameworks and fostering a team culture that uses AI as a force multiplier accelerating learning, operational efficiency, and innovation in shopper engagement and commerce technology.

• We let the type of work you do guide the collaboration style. That means we're not always working in an office, but we continue to gather for key moments of collaboration and connection.
• This role will need to be in the office for in-person collaboration 1-2 times per quarter and therefore needs to be in a commutable distance from the Toronto office (85 Richmond St. W).
