Job Description

The Manager, Data Analytics, Assurance & Advisory will lead and support data-driven auditing processes, leveraging analytics and artificial intelligence to improve audit efficiency and effectiveness. The role combines strong technical expertise in data analysis with an understanding of internal audit processes to drive value for Assurance & Advisory (A&A) and CPPIB’s strategy. This position will report to a Director, Assurance & Advisory.

This Manager will be an enabler of strategic A&A initiatives, including supporting the advancement of the Data Analytics roadmap, evolving and enhancing internal audit’s use of data driven risk based-audit planning, execution and audit reporting in accordance with International Standards for the Professional Practice of Internal Auditing, accepted industry practices or other commonly accepted practices that exceed the mandatory requirements of standards of the profession.

Accountabilities

Data Driven Risk-Based Audit Coverage

  • Maintaining a comprehensive understanding of CPPIB’s systems, structures and operations
  • Working with and analyzing complex data from various sources, navigating a variety of servers, data types, and data structures and developing custom analytics for investment, operational and technology audits, to integrate data analytics capabilities into existing A&A processes
  • Support the Director (Data Analytics) in embedding data into full cycle auditing
  • Providing a high level of professional and technical advice to inform current and emerging data analytics issues and promote awareness and use data analytics methods
  • Identifying risks through application of advanced analytics and data modelling to generate insights, predictions and recommendations

Contribution to the Development of Advanced Analytics AI & ML

  • Support a range of experimental innovative pilots that show Advanced Analytics models, Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence and predictive insights capabilities that bridges the A&A and CPPIB needs

Contribution to the Development of Advanced Data Analytics Program

  • Support Director (Data Analytics) in identifying and implementing DA roadmap and at achieving A&A objectives relating to the use of data analytics in conducting internal audits and assurance services

Stakeholder and Business Partner Collaboration and Engagement

  • Collaborate with cross-functional partners to ensure awareness, agreement, alignment and commitment (e.g. A&A Digital Data Analytics and Enterprise Data Strategy)
  • Perform data analysis to provide meaningful and insightful reporting for the Audit team to help inform decisions and opinions on internal audit engagements

Qualifications

Education & Professional Certifications

  • Bachelor’s degree with a technology or data science/ analytics emphasis, or equivalent education and experience in leading projects independently
  • Designations or certifications in data science/ machine learning, Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), and/or risk management will be an asset

Professional Experience

  • Minimum 5 years of progressive experience in data analytics/data science, developing ML models, working with different data sources and structured as well as unstructured data. Experience in the use of Data & Analytics for auditing will be a plus.
  • Experience in the technology and operations that support investment/ asset management companies and strong understanding of the risk implications of the technology and operations on the business will be an asset.
  • Knowledge of audit methodologies, Information Technology frameworks, project management and risk management practices preferably in the investment management or related financial services areas will be highly beneficial.

  • Strong organizational/project management skills, the ability to manage and achieve multiple deadlines, both internal and external;
  • Commitment to continuous learning and professional growth, staying abreast of advancements in data analytics tools, technologies, and methodologies.
