How do we do things at Capital One Canada? We listen - to our people, and to our customers. We change with the times and have adopted a flexible hybrid model. Associates working in the hybrid model are expected to come into the office 3 days a week across Tuesdays and Thursdays, reserving Mondays and Fridays as company-wide virtual days. About the Role
Capital One is looking for an energetic, creative and results-driven communications professional with experience in driving integrated, multi-dimensional, external-facing programs in support of Capital One Canada's branded card business.
Working for a globally recognized brand provides opportunities to learn and grow while creating industry-leading communications campaigns specific to the Canadian landscape. Our work demands diverse skill sets including experience in developing strategic communications plans, earned media strategy, content creation, executive thought leadership and reputation building and protection, all rooted in data-driven insights and analytics.
This individual will partner with Canadian business leaders, global communication counterparts and external agencies to build and lead strategic, integrated and external-facing communications programs across channels that highlight our human-centered, tech-forward products and offerings to bolster awareness and the positive perception of Capital One amongst key audiences .
This position requires exceptional written, verbal, and presentation skills; solid understanding of and experience working within traditional and social media channels, specific to the Canadian landscape along with experience supporting senior executive leaders while also leading complex projects and teams to meet objectives as well as the ability to build trusted relationships - with both internal and external stakeholders - operating in a fast-paced, matrixed environment.
ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Exhibit a deep understanding of and ability to communicate the benefits, features and key insights related to Team Canada and enterprise business goals
- Work closely and engage with key stakeholders to build trusted relationships
- Identify themes, topics and content that resonate with target audiences and meet strategic business objectives
- Leverage data and insights to inform and measure success of narratives and influence programming
- Understand, identify, and effectively navigate potential reputation risks and sensitivities
- Ability to work seamlessly as part of a team, in an open and collaborative environment
Lead integrated corporate communications strategy, including earned/paid media and thought leadership programming
- Identify news hooks and agile earned media opportunities that support business objectives and coordinate outreach, leveraging key contacts and managing relationships to generate coverage across a range of media verticals to drive visibility within target markets
- Build and enhance mutually beneficial relationships among target media and external organizations while thoughtfully determining when to incorporate earned media, business thought leaders and experiential and content components into programming
- Draft and lead the development of effective communications materials, including: strategic plans, public announcements, leader talking points and remarks, social media content and other communications documents for various audiences
- Oversee flawless earned media engagement through comprehensive spokesperson training and prep, on the ground support, and media follow-up
- Provide external communications counsel and support for partner teams within the organization including legal, diversity, equity and inclusion, talent brand and corporate social responsibility.
Partner and collaborate with enterprise Corporate Communications team members to ensure well-managed (consistent, streamlined, value-driven and strategic wherever possible and appropriate) media, thought leadership and overall external engagement
- Effectively manage agency(s) and vendors to support programming and media engagement
- Assess risks, issues and potential communication problems and provide proactive solutions within the Canadian landscape
- Vet external speaking engagements, assess risks and headwinds, and collaborate appropriately to implement mitigation strategies while providing counsel to business partners and senior leaders
Embrace research, measurement and analytical thinking as a means to drive impact
- Ensure all work is executed through a lens of strategic impact and measurement, leveraging the latest tools and technology to showcase how communications is driving business outcomes, brand awareness and engagement
Support Capital One enterprise communications
- Connect the dots between Line of Business priorities and the broader enterprise to drive efficiencies and create value for our business partners
- Identify ways to enhance Capital One's reputation, ensuring all efforts reflect and bolster the enterprise brand.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's Degree
- Between 5-7 years of Public Relations/Communications industry experience
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Between 5-7 years of corporate communications or agency experience
- Between 3-5 years experience managing multiple projects simultaneously
- Between 3-5 years of experience with executive-level and senior leadership clients
- Between 3-5 years of experience with current digital and social media technology
- Experience working with and supporting corporate social responsibility and community impact, and/or diversity, equity and inclusion communications
- Experience working effectively with multiple constituents, including peers, executive management, senior management and working within a highly matrixed environment
