Financial Services at Lightspeed is looking for a Development Manager to lead the Data function in North America and grow our technical team within the Financial Services organization.

Reporting to the Head of Engineering, you will help us lead, mentor and grow a high-performing data engineering team and cultivate an inclusive, inspiring working culture. You will lead the team in developing the essential infrastructure and artifacts needed for our teams across Lightspeed to gain deeper business insights and drive superior decision-making, particularly around Financial Services.

We are looking for a leader with a solid, demonstrable background in data modelling and analytics engineering, who can earn the respect of engineers with their knowledge and experience. You have a proven track record of supporting, mentoring, leading and growing a data team, and of delivering reliable, robust and highly available data models & supporting data pipelines. You enjoy problem-solving and removing blockers to the team’s progress and have experience collaborating with Product teams and stakeholders like Finance, Risk and Operations. You are an effective and clear communicator who can direction-set and track team delivery in a distributed, fast-moving and rapidly changing agile environment.

For this role, you should be located in Canada, and able to work within EST/EDT hours. We offer a choice of fully remote, partially remote or fully office-based work environments (in cities with local offices).

NOTE: As a global company with employees and clients outside of Quebec, fluency in English as a working language is required for this position.

What you’ll be responsible for:

  • Proactively driving the data vision and strategy across the Financial Services products
  • Guiding, motivating and growing a new and fast-evolving team of Analytics Engineers, BI Analysts, as they solve complex problems in Financial Services
  • Collaborate closely with key stakeholders across functions - Product & Engineering, Risk, Operations, Finance, Marketing, Security.
  • Identifying, communicating and removing impediments and risks to delivery, within the team and across Financial Services as a whole
  • Planning and furthering the professional growth of individual team members, including 1-1s, performance reviews, ongoing feedback, goal-setting and promotions
  • Reporting up to engineering leadership and stakeholders on team progress and status
  • Finding and hiring top talent for your team and the wider organization
  • Providing technical and process guidance to the team during delivery

What you’ll be bringing to the team:

  • Experience leading a team of Data/Analytics Engineers building a scalable Data & BI Platform for critical functions in the company
  • Expert in SQL and have experience in Python/JavaScript or other programming languages. 
  • Deep technical expertise in design and development of Data Models & Pipelines. 
  • Strong skills in stakeholder management - understanding & addressing their needs
  • Solid written & verbal communication skills.
  • Inspirational leadership to hire, mentor and grow the team members. 
  • Strong outcome-driven mindset. 

Some additional things that would be a bonus:

  • Experience in the FinTech domain
  • Experience in GCP
  • Experience in ML/MLOps or Data Science

At Lightspeed, we carefully consider a wide range of factors when determining compensation, including your skill set, qualifications, experience, and market data. These considerations can cause your compensation to vary. We reasonably expect the total compensation for this position to be in the range of $165,000 - $180,000 CAD. Lightspeed also provides a variety of employee benefits including, but not limited to, medical, dental, wellness, life and disability insurance, RRSP plan and match, paid parental leave top-up, and paid time off.Please note that this compensation information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within Ontario and reflects the amount Lightspeed is willing to pay at the time of this posting.
