Job Description:

Are you a creator of clear communications and engaging content who knows exactly what to say to get your message across to your audience? Are you a strategic thinker with proven experience planning communications and consulting with partners to enable strong outcomes? The Manager, Advisor Communications, oversees the primary communication channels for reaching Retail Advice and Solutions advisors and field support roles, including email newsletters, and intranet websites.

The Manager, Advisor Communications will support the planning, development, and execution of communications to advisors and support teams through a variety of channels. It’s a fast-paced, rewarding role that requires meticulous attention to detail, strong editing skills, creative thinking, plain language writing skills, and a passion for bringing people along a journey through authentic, engaging conversations.

We’re looking for a passionate team player and proven leader who is proactive, creative and confident in their ability to drive outcomes. The successful candidate will collaborate while challenging traditional thinking and successfully execute communicating, advancing and promoting the priorities our business with our advisors.

What will you do?

  • Oversee the end-to-end content development and delivery to our audience of advisors and field management and support roles, including email newsletter build and web publishing

  • Provide communications counsel and advice to senior leaders and partners while developing strategies and materials that align to Retail Advice and Solutions’ strategic priorities and change management programs

  • Own the overall strategy for communicating to advisors, field management and support roles

  • Oversee a team of Senior Communications Specialists

  • Develop communications to support initiatives, events, and ongoing communications

  • Identify content opportunities that engage our audiences in new and effective ways

  • Write clear and engaging content in plain language that respects Sun Life writing and brand guidelines

  • Ensure content is written as a compelling Retail Advice and Solutions story that aligns with the vision and clearly communicates the value and benefits

  • Support a variety of channels such as email newsletters, internal social media, videos, and leader presentations

  • Develop strong relationships with key business partners and recommend the right communication approaches that help them achieve business objectives

  • Ensure metrics are in place and monitored to track the effectiveness of communications activities

What do you need to succeed?

  • Minimum 5-7 years experience in communications or change management.

  • Post-secondary education in related field (communications, journalism, public relations).

  • Experience in insurance, wealth management, or general financial services industry experience or experience in communicating to front-line salespeople and a demonstrated ability to advise senior leaders.

  • Exceptional written communications skills including editing, proofreading and attention to detail.

  • Self-starter with the ability to deliver strategic communications plans, desired outcomes and creative ways of communicating.

  • Ability to confidently counsel senior leaders with positive outcomes while keeping the advisor experience top of mind.

Preferred Skills:

  • Bilingualism is an asset.

  • Knowledge of HTML, web publishing or email building is an asset.

  • Experience as a people leader.

Unique Requirements:

  • As this position is posted in several locations, we specify that bilingualism (French, English, both oral and written) is required for Quebec only as the position includes managing both French and English-speaking staff (Quebec and outside Quebec) and providing daily support to the team.

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted.  It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors.  In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance.  Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
