Job Description:

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
CUSTOMER
  • Ensure the team is adequately resourced and able to manage the function’s day-to-day and longer-term business needs.
  • Support functional leaders and senior business management by providing thoughtful actuarial advice and relevant information to inform decision-making.
  • Oversee the communication, interpretation, application, and implementation of actuarial analyses and their results across the business.
  • Review actuarial analyses produced by the team.
  • Develop new procedures to address changes and unforeseen challenges.
  • Ensure work is performed in accordance with the organization’s methodology, principles, and practices.
  • Ensure the availability and quality of data used in all actuarial analyses, leveraging an in-depth knowledge of data systems.

SHAREHOLDER
  • Begin to appropriately challenge the business to ensure it is acting in its best interests.
  • Lead relationships with the organization’s control functions to ensure compliance with corporate and regulatory requirements.
  • Support the team in staying current on emerging issues, trends, and evolving regulatory requirements, and assess their potential impact on the Bank.
  • Identify and assess key issues and escalate them to the appropriate level and relevant stakeholders, as well as to Business Management, as required.
  • Ensure business activities comply with applicable internal and external requirements, such as financial controls, segregation of duties, transaction approvals, and physical control of assets.
  • Protect the organization’s interests by identifying and managing risks and escalating non-routine or high-risk transactions or activities, as required.
  • Stay current on emerging issues and trends, as well as evolving regulatory requirements, and assess their potential impact.
  • Maintain a culture of risk management and control supported by effective processes aligned with risk appetite.

EMPLOYEE / TEAM
  • Lead the overall team by providing leadership and guidance within the area of expertise.
  • Promote team development based on business or unit needs and TD’s direction; assess the team’s skills and capabilities while continuously seeking ways to enhance the value of deliverables.
  • Lead a high-performing team; provide ongoing feedback and performance assessments; coach and develop employees; and ensure performance management activities are completed by all employees.
  • Manage employees in accordance with all Human Resources policies, procedures, and codes of conduct.
  • Share knowledge, information, skills, and expertise with the team; ensure issues are communicated in a timely manner; and foster strong working relationships with other functions and teams.
  • Support an environment in which the team freely escalates issues; promote change through positive reinforcement of key milestones and achievements.
  • Build for the future by recruiting and developing a highly diverse, skilled, professional team capable of achieving business objectives.
  • Act as a brand ambassador for the business or functional unit and for the Bank, both internally and externally.

BREADTH & DEPTH
  • Oversee and lead a team of professionals and the overall operation of a diverse group within an area of moderate risk, complexity, or scope, while fostering talent growth and developing skills and capabilities to achieve professional objectives, support successful projects and initiatives, and deliver business results.
  • Ensure an integrated approach with other business areas and the broader organization, as appropriate.
  • Build effective relationships with a variety of stakeholders, initiative sponsors, senior executives, and the line of business.
  • Provide support and input into the overall strategy and disciplinary process across various business areas.
  • Provide coaching, mentoring, and guidance to practitioners, the business unit, and leaders within the area of expertise.
  • Demonstrate in-depth knowledge and understanding of the business, actuarial practices, or organizational practices.
  • Demonstrate advanced knowledge of external competition, the industry, and market trends as they relate to the function and business activities.
  • Focus primarily on short- to medium-term issues.
  • Typically reports to an executive.

EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION
  • University degree.
  • Eight or more years of relevant experience, including at least two to three years of people management experience.
  • Typically a fully qualified Fellow.
