Title and Summary

Manager, Accounting

Overview:
The Accounting Manager reports to the Accounting Director (with dotted line to Canada CFO) and is responsible for supporting the North America Region controller team to ensure that the legal entities in Canada are controlled in accordance with US GAAP and local reporting standards. The Accounting Manager will work in partnership with the NAM controller team, the Canada finance and tax teams, and the GBSC to ensure integrity of the Canada legal entity financials, support Strategic Innovation Fund (“SIF”) incentive reporting processes, and where applicable enhance processes and internal controls related to Canada legal entities.
Role:
• Own the Strategic Innovation Fund (“SIF”) incentive reporting processes including tracking of our commitments, documentation to support SIF reporting and collation of associated financial information
• Ensure that the legal entities in Canada are controlled in accordance with US GAAP and local reporting standards:
o Provide oversight over the legal entities
o Focus on Trial Balance accuracy
o Review of balance sheet reconciliations
o Statutory reporting – overlay journal entries for service fees, bonuses and other adjustments as required
o While audited statutory reporting to authorities is not mandatory today, we are asked to provide statutory accounts for tax purposes, SIF reporting and other regulatory purposes such as Statscan requests
• Assist with the preparation of budgets / forecasts at a legal entity level:
o Develop a process for legal entity budgeting and forecasting to ensure all business units and divisional inputs are posted as appropriate
• Partnering with the Global Shared Services Centre (“GBSC”) to ensure complete, accurate and timely accounting records for the Canadian entities
• Evaluate the transactions going through the legal entities to ensure they are appropriate and provide the business with support for any new transactions and flows
• Ensure that the Canadian legal entities are appropriately funded and provide cash forecasts to Treasury
• Oversee the banking administration for the region
• Provide supporting information and documentation to the Tax team to complete tax filings timely and for purposes of supporting tax positions during tax audits
• Partner with the technical teams to compile the project information for the Canadian R&D tax credit claim
• Support any applicable regulatory inquiries or reporting requirements
• Support the regional controller with quarterly reporting responsibilities to the Global Corporate Controllers’ team
• Ensure risk and control effectiveness as it relates to legal entity reporting for the Canadian region
• Support any process or control improvements related to these entities
All About You:
• Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance
• Knowledge of accounting under US GAAP and local reporting standards
Experience preparing budgets and forecasts a plus
• Knowledge of internal controls and operational procedures and processes
• Experience building collaborative working relationships with stakeholders at the global/regional, local or corporate level
• High attention to details and excellent analytical skills
• Proficient PC skills, including Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint); Hyperion & Oracle experience preferred
• Certified Public Accountant or Chartered Accountant or equivalent a plus
