Your Opportunity

Stantec is currently seeking a Major Projects Lead for Infrastructure to join our Infrastructure team. The Major Projects Lead will have responsibility for top line growth, strategic pursuits, and managing risk across our portfolio of Major Projects.

The Major Project Lead with work closely with the Director of Major Projects APD, Commercial Management Lead, The Technical Delivery Director, Sector Leaders, and the Regional Growth Leads (RGLs). The Major Projects Lead will report to the Major Projects Director of Alternative Project Delivery. 

The role would could be based in any location where Stantec offices are located.

Your Key Responsibilities

Major Projects are defined as projects that have potential for significant financial and/or reputation impacts to Stantec and include all Alternate Project Delivery (APD) projects (Design Build, Progressive Design Build, Construction Manager at Risk, Public Private Partnership, Engineering, Procurement and Construction, Integrated Project Delivery and Alliances).  

As Major Projects Lead (MPL), you will participate throughout all phases of APD projects including long-range tracking, pursuit, delivery, and close out.

Qualifications - External

General Responsibilities

  • Responsible for coordinating with Major Project Director of Alternative Project Delivery to bring their Major Projects to/through the risk review process and meetings
  • Attend reviews convened by other Business Lines where Infrastructure has a significant role in the project
  • Schedule and attend Corporate Governance Meetings
  • Work with the Major Project Director of Alternative Project Delivery and Commercial Management Lead (CML) to facilitate assignment of the Commercial Management/Project Controls resources during the pursuit and project phase
  • Work with the Technical Delivery Director to facilitate assignment of the Quality Management and Technology Management resources during the pursuit and project delivery phases

Specific Responsibilities

  • Work with the Major Project Director of Alternative Project Delivery to manage the overall APD portfolio and strategy
    • Tracks projects early and strategically select, with the RGLs, the best projects that reflect our goals
    • Understand and provide input on market conditions including long range plans for agencies including delivery methods
  • Work with Contractor Account Managers to track leads (and confirm Pipeline entries) with top tier contractors
    • Help maintain contractor relationships
    • Keep current on contract terms and conditions and current project execution 
    • Understand and provide input on market conditions for contractors including performance, backlog, and past success on pursuits.
  • Participate in the Go/No-Go process for APD projects prior to the risk reviews
    • Approval to be based on review of teaming partners, including contractors accepting our baseline terms and conditions; an appropriate resource plan; and confirmation the pursuit does not exceed the target levels identified herein
  • Work with the other Business Lines Major Project Leaders to track multi-business line Major Projects and processes
  • Develop project best practices that need to be completed for every project
  • Build and strengthen relationships with Project teams by cultivating a deep understanding of Stantec’s business and being proactive in improving risk management practices for Stantec’s Projects  
  • Actively leads certain pursuits and projects to maintain strong industry status
    • Target 50% utilization

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or construction management, or equivalent is required.
  • Minimum of 10 years of engineering, project management, leadership, and business development experience.

Position will primarily work in an office setting.  Occasional business travel will be required.
