Job Description

AECOM has an exciting opportunity for an ambitious track design engineer looking to take the next career step of building and developing their own regional team, as an LRT Design Lead, Western Canada.

 

This hybrid position can be based in Edmonton, Calgary, or Burnaby, where AECOM has many ongoing LRT Design projects. You will also be able to remotely support numerous projects across Canada, with a healthy pipeline of work for years to come.

 

In this leadership role, you will:

  • Perform various management, leadership, and people accountability responsibilities for a Transit design team.
  • Have full responsibility for interpreting, organizing, executing, and coordinating technical assignments. 
  • Have multi-disciplinary knowledge of engineering, particularly as it relates to track design.
  • Plan and develop engineering tasks concerned with unique or controversial problems. This involves exploration of subject area, definition of scope and selection of problems for investigation and development of novel concepts and approaches.
  • Regularly liaise with clients and internally as a core representative of AECOM's Transit and Rail group.
  • Act independently on technical matters pertaining to the field, drawing on your extensive technical experience in track design.
  • Support development of proposals, fee estimates, and other business development activities.
  • Act as a Discipline Lead, or as a Project Manager, subject to the scope of a project.
  • Lead hiring, retention, mentorship, and other people management efforts to develop a strong engineering team of your own.

 

     

    Qualifications

    Minimum Requirements

    • BSc in Civil Engineering + 8 years of transit/rail design & construction experience, or equivalent.
    • P.Eng. designation.
    • Extensive design management experience.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills (English).
    • Prior experience managing teams and supervising work of others.

    Preferred Requirements

    • 15+ years of LRT and/or freight rail experience.
    • 15+ years of civil linear infrastructure design experience.
    • Strong understanding of local transit design guidelines (Edmonton, Calgary, Vancouver)
    • Strong understanding of AREMA & Class I Railway standards.
    • Project management experience.
    • Willingness for periodic site visits.
    • Bilingual (English primary, French secondary).
