Crystal Dynamics is looking for a Level Designer with a focus on player traversal to join our talented team of game developers. In this role, you’ll be instrumental in crafting exciting traversal challenges that elevate the player’s experience. Your deep understanding of traversal mechanics and creative problem-solving will help create memorable gameplay paths that feel fun, engaging, and aligned with the game’s core principles.

As a Level Designer (Traversal Layout Specialist), you will:

  • Design and iterate traversal paths that enhance gameplay by offering creative, engaging ways for players to move throughout the game. 
  • Work independently on assigned traversal areas, ensuring the design aligns with the game’s mechanics and blocked-out environments.
  • Collaborate closely with art teams to ensure feasibility and logical consistency of traversal elements.
  • Participate in constructive discussions with other designers and stakeholders, ensuring levels meet the expected quality and align with the game's pacing and player experience goals.
  • Utilize your proficiency in level design tools and software to create and iterate on level layouts.
  • Maintain a balance between creative aspirations and the practical constraints of the project, such as timelines and technical limitations.
  • Produce detailed documentation for game levels, providing clear and comprehensive guidelines for the team. 

To be considered for this role, we require the following:

  • Experience in a Level Designer role, with a focus on player traversal mechanics.
  • Proven experience in designing compelling traversal paths that challenge and engage players.
  • Portfolio demonstrating your skill and creativity in level design.
  • Understanding of game design tools, software, and real-time game engines.
  • Knowledge of game design principles and how they contribute to player engagement and enjoyment. 

Preference will be given to candidates who have:

  • Background in designing levels for 3rd person Action-Adventure games on PC/console. 

It'll be a bonus if you also have: 

  • Experience in Unreal Engine.  
  • Contributed to the development of a AAA game. 

The pay range for this role includes the annual base salary, not including bonus and the generous benefits package that Crystal Dynamics provides all full-time employees. Individual compensation is determined by work location within our approved states or regions, as well as additional factors, including job related skills, experience, and relevant education.

$73,000$109,000 CAD
