Job Description

Job Summary

A Legal Assistant / Tax/Claims Associate with our Claims Department is responsible for reviewing tax, water and common expense claims for insureds/claimants. This is a fixed term contract and hybrid role, with 1-2 days per week expected in-person at 200 Bay Street in Toronto.

Job Responsibilities

  • Reviewing tax, water and common expense claims in accordance with Insuring provisions to determine whether claim is covered
  • Performing tax and water calculations.
  • Preparing cheque requisitions for covered claims and forwarding payments to Insured/municipalities
  • Requesting additional documentation in relation to all the inquiries set forth above
  • Preparing files for Recovery
  • Contacting Insured/law firms/municipalities to obtain required information and communicate results of the investigation
  • Handling general claim inquiry calls
  • Sending out follow up status request on pending files in a timely manner
  • Other duties as assigned or required

    Qualifications

    • Law Clerk or Legal Assistant Diploma
    • 1-3 years relevant experience in real estate an asset
    • Knowlege of accounting practices
    • Full understanding of closing procedures including Statement of Adjustments
    • Excellent verbal and written communication, customer service, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
    • Excellent attention to detail.
    • Ability to work well in a team.
    • Resourceful in nature
    • Good computer literacy and knowledge of Microsoft Suite (Outlook, Word, and Excel) advanced knowledge of Excel is required.

    Salary Range45,000 to 50,000 annually
