Job Summary
A Legal Assistant / Tax/Claims Associate with our Claims Department is responsible for reviewing tax, water and common expense claims for insureds/claimants. This is a fixed term contract and hybrid role, with 1-2 days per week expected in-person at 200 Bay Street in Toronto.
Job Responsibilities
- Reviewing tax, water and common expense claims in accordance with Insuring provisions to determine whether claim is covered
- Performing tax and water calculations.
- Preparing cheque requisitions for covered claims and forwarding payments to Insured/municipalities
- Requesting additional documentation in relation to all the inquiries set forth above
- Preparing files for Recovery
- Contacting Insured/law firms/municipalities to obtain required information and communicate results of the investigation
- Handling general claim inquiry calls
- Sending out follow up status request on pending files in a timely manner
- Other duties as assigned or required
Qualifications
- Law Clerk or Legal Assistant Diploma
- 1-3 years relevant experience in real estate an asset
- Knowlege of accounting practices
- Full understanding of closing procedures including Statement of Adjustments
- Excellent verbal and written communication, customer service, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Ability to work well in a team.
- Resourceful in nature
- Good computer literacy and knowledge of Microsoft Suite (Outlook, Word, and Excel) advanced knowledge of Excel is required.
Salary Range – 45,000 to 50,000 annually
