The Legal Assistant role assists In-House Counsel to coordinate and manage insurance defence files from assignment to resolution. Partners with assigned legal counsel to drive files forward through organizing case files, document drafting, scheduling and collaboration with counsel.

What will you do?

  • Case File Management:
    • Help manage insurance defence files.
    • Draft pleadings, summaries, affidavits of documents, status reports and correspondence.
    • Assemble case materials, arrange defense medicals, prepare for trials and arbitrations.
    • Communicate with counsel and clients.
    • Schedule timely litigation events in coordination with opposing counsel.
  • Legal Compliance and Governance:
    • Ensure regulatory compliance with case filing and reporting.
  • Additional Accountabilities:

What will you need to succeed?

  • Specific License, Accreditation, or Certification:
    • Law clerk or Legal Assistant Certificate.
  • Work Experience:
    • 2+ years minimum of experience as an insurance law clerk or legal assistant.
    • Proficiency and knowledge in the Rules of Civil Procedure and court operations.
  • Skills:
    • Proficiency in MS Office and CaseCentre (formally CaseLines).
    • Strong communication skills.
    • Strong organizational skills.
    • High attention to detail.
    • Ability to multitask.

Location: We’re a hybrid team that thrives on the energy and value of in-office collaboration. This role offers the best of both worlds, with 1-2 days a week spent in our Toronto office.
