We are currently seeking a Lead Software Engineer to develop and support technical solutions for our Retail Advice & Solutions business group. To be a successful candidate, you should be an experienced IT professional who has a passion for solving business problems and creating world-class technical solutions, shows initiative, and is accountable for results. You should be technically adaptable as you will be collaborating with various technical teams at Sun Life and external vendors.

What will you do?

• Work with the Principle Software Engineer at the hub level to design high quality application solutions and collaborate with Agile build teams to deliver the solutions. Most of the solutions involve vendor integration.

• Work with software vendors, integrating their solutions into our applications
• Participate in Agile ceremonies
• Provide technical direction and guidance to projects, ensuring risks are mitigated and projects are implemented successfully
• Contribute to defining timelines and plans; analyzing and estimating feasibility, cost, time and scope

Knowledge and Skill requirements:

• Advanced overall understanding of Web applications and server technologies (i.e., Java, J2EE, AWS, Websphere, web and web hosting technologies)
• Minimum of 6 years of software application development experience 
• Technical leadership and strength in guiding projects, ensuring risks are mitigated and successfully implementing projects
• Ability to work well independently and as part of a team
• Experience working with Vendor and integration vendor solutions
• Proven ability to develop, mentor and lead professional technical staff
• Ensure coding, testing, debugging and implementation activities are completed as required

Nice to have:

• Experience with DevOps tools (i.e., Jenkins, Artifactory, BitBucket, Maven, CDD/Ansible)
• Web application development experience (i.e., Bootstrap, AJAX, JSON, HTML5, CSS3, Net, IIS, VB and SQL server)
• Understanding of Agile methodology (i.e., Kanban, Scrum, SAFe, Digital Enterprise) Working experience of Microsoft .NET technology

Special Requirements:

• Periodic weekend/after-hours work may be required to support project implementations and system upgrades

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance. Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
