About this role

Reporting to: Senior Manager, Data Engineering

These are some of the key components to the position:

Semantic Layer & Data Architecture

  • Architect the Semantic Layer: Lead the design and development of gold-tier DBT models and BigQuery resources to ensure a reusable, consistent, and governed data warehouse architecture.
  • Provide Technical Leadership: Act as the senior technical authority on the team, partnering with the Senior Manager to shape the data engineering roadmap and architectural decisions.
  • Bridge Global & Local Teams: Serve as the primary liaison between local and global engineering teams, translating global architecture patterns into local implementations.
  • Drive Pipeline Excellence: Design, build, and optimize scalable, high-performance batch and streaming ELT pipelines using Airflow, DBT, and BigQuery.
  • Advance Streaming Strategy: Support AWS-hosted production systems and spearhead the adoption of real-time ingestion patterns (e.g., Kafka, Datastream).
  • Champion Data Governance: Establish robust data quality frameworks, testing standards, and observability practices to ensure enterprise-wide consistency and compliance.
  • Mentor & Coach: Foster a culture of engineering excellence by mentoring data and analytics engineers, conducting code reviews, and driving continuous improvement.
What will you bring to the team?
  • Proven Experience: 6+ years in data engineering with a track record of leading architectural decisions for complex, large-scale data platforms.
  • Advanced Tech Stack Expertise: Expert-level proficiency in BigQuery, DBT, and Airflow, with the ability to defend choices and mentor others in modeling and orchestration.
  • Modern Data Architecture: Deep understanding of dimensional modeling, semantic layer design, and medallion/lakehouse architecture patterns.
  • Data Pipeline Mastery: Hands-on experience building and managing both batch and streaming pipelines, alongside familiarity with AWS data services (S3, Glue, Kinesis, RDS).
  • Quality & Governance Focus: Demonstrated experience establishing or contributing to organizational data governance and data quality frameworks.
  • Strong Communication & Leadership: Exceptional technical communication skills, with a proven ability to translate complex architecture for stakeholders and raise the team's technical bar.

Bonus Qualifications (Nice-to-Have): Experience with  Kafka, federated/hub-and-spoke organizational models, or high-velocity marketplace/food delivery platforms.
