Lead AI Engineer, Agentic Solutions Acceleration

📍 Hybrid role requiring three days per week on-site in Menlo Park.

The Role: Architecting, Guiding, and Scaling Enterprise AI Agents

The Lead AI Engineer will be the principal technical authority for the design, development, and deployment of the core AI Agent systems within the Solutions Team. You will be responsible for defining the reference architecture for all agentic solutions, mentoring senior engineers, and ensuring technical alignment with the Director's strategic vision.

Key Responsibilities

1. Architectural Leadership & Strategy (Primary Focus)

  • Define Agent Reference Architecture: Establish the standardized, reusable, and secure reference architecture for building, testing, and deploying all AI Agents within the OutSystems solutions portfolio.

  • Technology Vetting: Evaluate and select the core Generative AI models, orchestration frameworks (e.g., LangChain, Semantic Kernel), and MLOps tools used by the team, balancing state-of-the-art capabilities with enterprise reliability.

  • Design Reviews: Lead architectural and code reviews for all agent components, ensuring scalability, security (especially around data leakage and access control), and compliance with Responsible AI principles.

2. Advanced Development & Integration

  • Complex Agent Development: Remain hands-on by designing and coding the most complex, high-impact agent components or tools that interact with core enterprise systems.

  • Low-Code Integration Strategy: Define the API and integration strategies for seamlessly and securely connecting agent back-ends with the low-code applications built on OutSystems.

  • Performance and Governance: Oversee performance tuning of agents and implement robust logging, monitoring, and tracing mechanisms for all AI services in production.

3. Mentorship and Alignment

  • Technical Guidance: Mentor and guide the team of Senior AI Engineers and developers, fostering a culture of technical excellence, continuous learning, and innovation.

  • Cross-Functional Alignment: Collaborate closely with the Director of Solutions and Product Management to translate strategic objectives into clear, executable technical roadmaps and deliver solutions that meet market needs.

Required Skills & Experience

Technical Expertise (The Must-Haves)

  • AI Agent and System Architecture: 8+ years of experience in software engineering, with experience building production-grade AI Agents and complex intelligent systems within the enterprise.

  • Generative AI Expert: Mastery of LLMs, advanced prompt engineering, RAG strategies, fine-tuning, and grounding techniques. Proven ability to design agentic systems that require complex reasoning and tool use.

  • Framework Leadership: Expert-level knowledge and practical experience leading teams utilizing major AI Agent orchestration frameworks (LangChain, Semantic Kernel, or deep internal frameworks).

  • Python and Scalability: Expert-level coding skills in Python, coupled with extensive experience in cloud-native deployment, containerization (Docker/Kubernetes), and managing scalable APIs (REST/gRPC).

  • Security & Responsible AI: Demonstrated ability to implement security best practices (e.g., authorization, data masking) and enforce Responsible AI governance and guardrails in production systems.

Desirable Expertise (A Strong Plus)

  • Low-Code Platform Knowledge: Familiarity with the OutSystems platform or similar low-code/no-code platforms, understanding their integration patterns and architecture limitations.

Leadership & Professional Attributes

  • Architectural Vision: Proven track record of defining and driving multi-year technical roadmaps and architectural standards.

  • Team Leadership: Experience successfully mentoring and leading technical peers or small engineering teams.

  • Strategic Communicator: Exceptional ability to articulate complex technical risks and opportunities to executive stakeholders and non-technical partners.
