The Advanced Optics Team drives the design and development of cutting-edge optical transceiver modules for PON (Passive Optical Network) systems. By developing these modules in-house, the team plays a critical role in advancing Nokia’s strategic vision—enhancing competitiveness, enabling differentiated optical solutions, and delivering high-performance technology at a more optimized cost.
 

Responsibilities
  • Collaborate closely with firmware, hardware, optical, test, and project management teams as a technical liaison.

  • Support module and system integration testing and characterization activities.

  • Lead root cause analysis and resolution of complex technical issues.

  • Develop a deep understanding of firmware, hardware, and optical subsystem technologies.

  • Evolve into providing architectural guidance and design across multiple technical domains.
     

Qualifications

Must have:
 

  • Bachelor’s or advanced degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.

  • Must be a Canadian citizen and based in Ottawa.

Nice to have:
 

  • Knowledge of optical fiber communications and photonic devices (lasers, modulators, photodetectors).
  • Understanding of modulation formats, signal encoding/decoding, and error correction techniques.

  • Hands-on experience with lab equipment such as OSA, vector analyzers, BERT, and DCA.

  • Skilled in test automation and programming (C/C++, Python) with strong problem-solving abilities.

  • Familiar with hardware interfaces (I2C, SPI, UART), embedded systems (Zephyr RTOS, Embedded Linux), and effective team collaboration.
