Job Description
Reporting to the National IPAC Manager, the Consultant will work with a team of consultants to provide IPAC support to the field in accordance with best practices and Extendicare and Ministry of Health, Public Health & Long- Term Care Standards for Extendicare owned and managed facilities.
RESPONSIBILITIES

Provides expertise and support, including regular on-site visits, and telephone/e-mail/virtual consultation to facilities for Infection Prevention and Control.

Supports outbreak management systems for detecting, managing, and controlling infectious disease outbreaks in facilities in collaboration with other QRI consultants
-
Reviews the following: Facility/Departmental quality improvement reports -, infection rates, immunization rates, surveillance, hand hygiene and PPE audits, outbreak data and other infection control internal and external reports.

Conducts operational & risk reviews for infection prevention and control programs and makes recommendations for corrective action plans with follow up as needed

Provides support to Outbreak Management Teams and epidemiological investigations for infectious disease outbreaks as required

Provides on site assistance to implement standardized systems, assists facilities to implement any recommended changes related to IPAC as required.

Educates and coaches staff and QRI consultants in Infection control practices to further develop their knowledge and expertise

Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with external stakeholders including Public Health Authorities and other provincial regulatory bodies.

Collaborates with other QRI Consultants in initiating best practices throughout facilities.

Attends regular meetings and assumes the lead on assigned projects.

Experience/knowledge of Long-Term Care and Retirement Home operations is an asset.

This is a national position that involves travel across local, regional, and provincial areas as part of the role.
QUALIFICATIONS
-
Highly motivated and passionate about long-term care and Infection Prevention and Control.
-
College or University degree in Health Sciences or other Regulated Healthcare profession.
-
Post Graduate course in Infection Control, Public Health an asset

Certification in Infection Control (CIC or LTC-CIP) Required

Knowledge of Long-Term care sector legislative requirements, Quality Improvement principles,

Minimum 3- 5 years of infection control experience

Ability to do Risk Assessments through data analysis and through investigation is an asset

Good leadership, organizational & interpersonal skills, ability to work effectively with others and an ability to effect change.

Ability to work independently and be self-directed.

Demonstrated interest and involvement in professional activities and continuing education.

Excellent written and oral communication.

Knowledge in LEAN methodology and quality improvement an asset
