Groves Memorial Community Hospital · Louise Marshall Hospital · Palmerston & District Hospital

POSTING #2026-159

**INTERNAL INTEREST POSTING**

NURSING CHAMPION(s)

(MULTIPLE VACANCIES)

Wellington Health Care Alliance (WHCA) is seeking a Nursing Champion at each of its three hospital sites (Palmerston & District Hospital, Louise Marshall Hospital, and Groves Memorial Community Hospital) to support the planning and implementation of a modern Health Information System (HIS).

The Nursing Champion is a site-based clinical leadership role for nurses who want to help shape how HIS is implemented at the front line. Nursing Champions will serve as the primary nursing voice and liaison at their site, bridging bedside practice with project team decisions. This is an opportunity to make a meaningful impact on care delivery while building practical experience in digital health and clinical transformation.

Position Summary:

Project work will report to the HIS project team (primary manager will remain unchanged from base position). The Nursing Champion will represent nursing perspectives at their assigned site throughout the HIS implementation, from workflow design through go-live and stabilization.

These roles are designed to leverage the Nursing Champion's direct clinical experience to ensure the HIS is configured and implemented in a way that reflects real front-line nursing workflows, supports patient safety, and builds nursing confidence in the new system.

Why Consider This Role?

  • Champion nursing perspectives during a major digital transformation at WHCA
  • Develop expertise in clinical informatics, digital health, and HIS implementation
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary project teams and clinical leaders
  • Help design workflows that reflect real bedside nursing practice
  • Build leadership skills and expand your professional profile

SUMMARY OF KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Clinical Workflow & System Design

  • Serve as the primary nursing voice at your site throughout the HIS implementation
  • Participate in current-state and future-state nursing workflow analysis
  • Review and validate order sets, nursing documentation, and clinical workflows for nursing alignment
  • Ensure HIS configuration reflects safe nursing practice and documentation requirements are properly captured

Testing & Validation

  • Participate in system and user acceptance testing from a nursing perspective
  • Identify, document, and escalate nursing-related issues or gaps identified during testing
  • Review and validate clinical content such as medication administration workflows, documentation templates, and care plans

Training & Go‑Live Support

  • Support development of nursing-specific training materials and tip sheets
  • Provide peer coaching and at-the-elbow support to nursing staff during training and go-live
  • Help identify super users and informal nurse leaders who can provide ongoing peer support

Site Engagement & Communication

  • Act as a visible, trusted point of contact for nursing staff questions and concerns at your site
  • Communicate project updates, timelines, and decisions back to front-line nursing teams
  • Gather and relay front-line nursing feedback to the project team
  • Participate in site-level nursing leadership meetings as appropriate

Collaboration

  • Work closely with the Clinical Informatics Lead, Physician Champions, and the broader HIS project team
  • Partner with the site Clinical Manager, Business Transformation Specialist, and nursing leadership to support change readiness
  • Collaborate with Nursing Champions at other WHCA sites to share learnings and promote consistency

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:

  • Registered Nurse (RN) or Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) in good standing with the CNO
  • Minimum 3 years of clinical nursing experience
  • Strong understanding of nursing workflows, patient documentation, and care delivery at WHCA or a comparable organization
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to engage and support nursing peers through change

Assets:

  • Experience with Meditech or other electronic health record systems
  • Involvement in quality improvement, workflow redesign, or clinical education initiatives
  • Previous experience as a super user, peer educator, or project team contributor
  • Interest in clinical informatics or digital health

Hours of Work: Varies. Estimated starting point of 10-20 hours per week, up to 37.5 hours per week at project peak.

Travel may be required to our sites at Groves Memorial Community Hospital, Palmerston & District Hospital and Louise Marshall Hospital, so a valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle is required.

Application Process:

Interested candidates are invited to submit a brief expression of interest including:

  • Statement of interest, why you want to be a Nursing Champion and what you would bring to the role
  • Summary of relevant nursing experience and current role/department
  • Brief description of any previous involvement in projects, system implementations, or workflow redesign

Manager awareness is recommended prior to applying.

Additional Information

  • These are temporary, project-based assignments aligned to WHCA's HIS implementation
  • One Nursing Champion will be selected per site (PDH, LMH, GMCH)
  • Workload adjustments and/or backfill will be coordinated with department leadership
  • Time commitment will vary by project phase; this will be communicated to candidates in advance
  • Nursing Champions will have access to training, project resources, and peer support throughout the implementation
