About the Internship Opportunity with Marketing & Communications
Join the PR & MarComm team for Summer 2026 during a pivotal milestone: MaRS’ 25th Anniversary. As we revitalize the MaRS brand to celebrate a quarter-century of innovation, you will play an active role in shaping how we tell our story to the world.
This role supports MaRS’ brand visibility and engagement through social media content creation, media relations, and campaign assistance. It is designed to be a meaningful, skills-based learning experience that aligns with your academic goals while giving you the chance to contribute to high-impact organizational events.
Along with other team members, the intern will provide essential executional support across media relations and social media amplification. The role will directly contribute to maintaining MaRS’ visibility and ensuring consistent promotion of programs, ventures, and partnerships.
The intern will gain exposure to real-world communications strategy, media monitoring and reporting, social media content development, and campaign execution. In turn, this support will help strengthen MaRS’ communications capacity and contribute to increased brand visibility and community engagement.
Major tasks the Intern will undertake:
You will gain practical experience in PR, media relations, and digital storytelling by owning the following tasks:
- Media Monitoring: Track daily news, maintain coverage logs, and produce weekly summaries to keep the team informed on industry trends.
- Content Creation: Draft first-round media pitches, press releases, and briefing notes for team review.
- Social Media: Assist with calendar planning, copywriting, scheduling, and community engagement across key platforms.
- Storytelling: Research and interview MaRS-supported founders to develop venture profiles and website content.
- Thought Leadership: Research and pitch podcast and speaking opportunities for MaRS leaders; manage the tracking list for all executive external engagements.
- Event Support: Coordinate promotion and organic social coverage before, during, and after major MaRS events.
- Data & Analytics: Maintain PR dashboards and databases, ensuring media lists and outreach logs are accurate and up to date.
- Project Coordination: Assist with the internal tracking of campaigns, approvals, and timelines to ensure projects stay on track.
What You Bring
Required Skills & Experience
- Currently enrolled in post secondary studies going into your 3rd or 4th year, or Master's in September 2026
- Writing and editing skills
- Interest in media
- Strong organization and attention to detail
- Comfort with social media platforms
The Fine Print
The internship runs May 4 - August 21, 2026.
The expected annual base salary range (prorated for the term) for this role is $42,000 - $51,000, which is determined based on year of study, candidate’s skills, knowledge, experience, and internal equity.

Applicants must be legally eligible to work in Canada, reside in Ontario for the duration of the internship and be willing to work out of our Toronto office (101 College Street) a minimum of 3 days per week.
