About the Internship Opportunity with Climate

The Climate team is seeking an intern to drive operational excellence, strengthen data infrastructure, and support high-impact external engagements. In this role, you will work across three core pillars: Data Standardization, Event Coordination, and Program Strategy.

You will play a pivotal role in enhancing our ability to support climate ventures by streamlining investor-venture matchmaking and improving organizational decision-making. Beyond data, you will be on the ground coordinating our presence at Toronto Climate Week (June 2026) and helping to codify the "Mission from MaRS" model into a scalable playbook for future programs. This role offers the opportunity to build a strong professional network while creating tangible assets that will shape how MaRS supports the cleantech portfolio for years to come.

 

Major tasks the Intern will undertake:

In this role, you will drive operational excellence for the Climate team by modernizing data infrastructure, coordinating high-impact ecosystem events, and developing scalable frameworks for future programming. Specifically, you will:

  • Build and optimize our Investor Database: Migrate existing data from Google Sheets to build a structured, searchable, and clean Airtable database, ensuring accurate tagging to streamline investor-venture matchmaking.
  • Modernize Venture Tagging Logic: Collaborate with cross-functional teams (IT, Benchmarking & Insights, Member Experience) to update climate venture tagging in Salesforce. You will implement Sightline’s taxonomy to ensure data is accessible and standardized across the organization.
  • Coordinate Toronto Climate Week: Manage logistics, scheduling, and communications for our participation in Toronto Climate Week. This includes organizing 1–3 proprietary Climate team events and supporting logistics for ecosystem partner events.
  • Define Success Metrics: Develop a comprehensive framework and set of long-term success metrics to ensure consistency in impact tracking across our various climate missions.
  • Create the "Mission from MaRS" Playbook: Build upon foundational work to produce a polished, accessible climate programming playbook. You will format this resource to be easily replicable, ensuring future teams can scale the program efficiently.

What You Bring

Required Skills & Experience

  • Currently enrolled in post secondary studies going into your 4th year, or Master's in September 2026
  • Strong data management skills (Excel or Airtable experience)Attention to detail
  • Familiarity with climate tech, impact measurement, or innovation ecosystems
  • Strong organizational and project coordination abilities

Great to have (but not required)

  • Experience with CRM tools (Salesforce)
  • Prior experience creating process documentation or playbooks
  • Comfort coordinating meetings, events, logistics

The Fine Print

The internship runs May 4 - August 21, 2026.

The expected annual base salary range (prorated for the term) for this role is $42,000 - $51,000, which is determined based on year of study, candidate’s skills, knowledge, experience, and internal equity.

Applicants must be legally eligible to work in Canada, reside in Ontario for the duration of the internship and be willing to work out of our Toronto office (101 College Street) a minimum of 3 days per week.
