Job Description:

The candidate will be a member of a team within Data Management Services (DMS) called Alternative Database Technologies. Alternative Database Technologies is responsible for database infrastructure architecture and operation support to teams using various cloud based and on-premises database platforms.

The successful candidate will have a passion for database related technologies and is a proven fast learner. This is an opportunity for someone who is expert in data warehouse technologies, preferably in AWS DynamoDB and MongoDB.

What will you do:

  • Maintain and optimize AWS DynamoDB and MongoDB environments across dev, test, stage and production Participate in projects throughout the entire project lifecycle, and define, manage, and track project deliverables using defined technologies
  • Maintain up-to-date documentation and procedures for NoSQL and other supported database platforms
  • Keep up to date on current and upcoming technology innovations for use within Sunlife
  • Develop scripts to support the database operations on Linux, containers or cloud-based platforms
  • Support project development following documented standards, policies and procedures (Change Management Process)
  • Evaluate functionality and features within related database products
  • Contribute ideas for best practice improvements, process improvement, and innovative solutions
  • Develop automation playbooks using Ansible, AWS Cloud Formation, Terraform

What you need to succeed.

  • University degree in Computer Science or related information technology degree/diploma.
  • 1-2 years of hands-on experience on mainstream relational databases, such as PostgreSQL, MSQL, SQL Server or Oracle.
  • 1-2 years of demonstrable knowledge on Docker, Kubernetes, OpenShift.
  • Strong foundation of writing AWS CloudFormation or Terraform Scripts
  • Recognized certifications, such as AWS DevOps Engineer Professional, Terraform Authoring and Operations Professional, Certified Kubernetes Administrator, AWS Associate certification (level at minimum)

Preferred Skills:

  • Problem-solving skills, experience and have the experience to lead small to medium initiatives. This includes programming skills verification during the hiring process/onboarding process
  • Strong communication skills, ability to convey ideas and opinions to all levels of employees and management
  • Take initiative to for development, be curious, persistent to find the right solutions to resolve complex problems and communicate ideas to team and management

As a condition of the role, the successful candidate must obtain a Government of Canada Reliability Status security clearance through Sun Life in advance of the start date

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance. Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
