Your Opportunity
An opportunity exists Ottawa, ON for a highly motivated Intermediate Mechanical Engineer to join our multidisciplinary team. In this role you will be responsible for the design and execution of projects ranging in size and complexity, with a focus on civic, industrial, healthcare, commercial and educational projects. The successful candidate will also be responsible for providing technical mentorship to junior mechanical staff, developing and maintaining new and existing clients, coordinating skillsets with other offices and disciplines, and satisfying customer requirements.
Your Key Responsibilities
- Designing building-related mechanical systems including HVAC, Hydronics, Plumbing, Fuels, Controls, and Fire Protection systems using applicable codes, standards, and reference materials.
- Preparing detailed engineering design calculations.
- Preparing contract drawings, schematics, schedules, details, and sketches from conceptual design through to construction.
- Producing mechanical drawings in REVIT MEP and in AutoCAD.
- Writing reports analyzing mechanical problems and providing engineering solutions and recommendations.
- Reviewing equipment selections, performing preliminary engineering calculations, and developing preliminary designs.
- Mentoring and working with junior staff, including instructing them in the completion of design calculations, providing markups for REVIT MEP and AutoCAD drawing development, guiding the production of reports and memos, and reviewing their work.
- Collaborating with other intermediate and senior staff to establish design concepts and get reviews of design intents.
- Facilitating and ensuring the quality of the project deliverables.
- Following production guidelines and project standards to Stantec and Client drafting guidelines.
- Reviewing shop drawings and other contractor submittals for compliance with construction documents.
- Performing field surveys for drawing developments, site reviews and as recorded drawings.
- Communicating with other team members and become familiar with Stantec standards to complete assignments and projects in a timely manner as required by the Project Manager and Discipline Lead.
Your Capabilities and Credentials
- Strong knowledge of building-related mechanical systems.
- Experience in mechanical design for water/wastewater facilities is considered an asset.
- Mechanical design experience of process piping systems considered an asset.
- Knowledge of and familiarity with national and provincial building codes and standards.
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD and Revit MEP software.
- Good organization, coordination, and project management skills to maintain project schedules and budgets.
- Familiar with consulting contract terminology.
- Demonstrated technical writing skills; capable of writing reports, proposals, letters, and technical specifications.
- Proven success in developing new business with existing clients and maintaining positive relationships.
- Good verbal communication and soft skills.
- Familiarity with industry trends and industry leaders in Ontario.
- Strong English verbal and writing skills are required. French language skills are considered an asset.
- Eligible to apply for and receive PSPC Secret Clearance is required. Existing PSPC Secret or Reliability Clearance status is considered an asset.
- Experience in IES Energy Modeling software is considered an asset.
- Current Driver's license is required.
- Ability to travel within Canada may be required.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) registration in the province of Ontario. License to practice engineering in Quebec is considered an asset.
- Minimum of 5 years of consulting engineering experience in the buildings industry, working with municipal, provincial, federal, industrial, healthcare, commercial and educational clients.
