TMX Group is an integrated, multi-asset class exchange group. TMX Group's key subsidiaries operate cash and derivative markets and clearinghouses for multiple asset classes including equities, fixed income and energy. We also provide clearing facilities, data products and other services to the international financial community. TMX Markets consist of the Derivatives and Equities Trading businesses of the TMX Group.The Insights team sits at the intersection of business and technology, with a mandate to research, design and build tools, processes and analytics to foster data-driven decisions and improve operational excellence across TMX Markets. The team is nimble and works very closely with the business to rapidly define, prototype, refine and release solutions.
The Insights Business Analyst will work closely with our business partners (Primarily Client Relationship Management, Product Development and Research) to identify problems/opportunities for improvement and leverage their expertise to develop data-driven solutions. They are experts in knowing what data assets are available across the enterprise, and how these assets can be used to help the business drive growth. They are comfortable working independently and taking responsibility for each project from inception to delivery. They have a general understanding of the products and services offered by TMX Markets and a keen interest in the business.
The Insights Business Analyst will have experience using Big Data tools such as Presto, Hive and Apache Spark to extract, manipulate and clean data from various sources. They also have expertise in using data visualization tools such as Tableau in order to create tools that allow our business partners to understand and act on the insights presented.How does the Insights BA contribute at TMX?
Works with business partners to find opportunities to leverage data to optimize business process and decision making to drive growth
Leverages TMX data assets to provide support to internal and external partners, namely:
Product Design - identify opportunities for revenue optimization and new products
Clients- facilitate the optimization of client interactions with TMX Markets products to ensure they derive maximum value from our product suite
Market Research - identify emerging trends and anomalies in market place behaviour
Business Development - assess opportunities to attract new customer segments, diversify revenue sources and deliver new value-add services
Works with Enterprise data teams to identify, understand and gain access to pertinent data from across the organization
Works with DevOps and other technology teams to operationalize solutions to ensure scalability and support
Leverages Tableau/Superset/QuickSights to create dashboards and visualizations for business users
Leverages Big Data tools to ensure the team has efficient access to high quality data
Provides expert guidance to individuals across TMX Markets on leveraging data and visualization tools such Tableau and AWS QuickSights
Keeps abreast of emerging trends and technologies in the data space, in order to deepen and leverage TMX Markets’ understanding of its own data.
Demonstrates thought leadership by thinking long-term and challenging the status quo in a constructive manner.
Degree in a quantitative or technology focused field such as Computer Science, Engineering or Business with a joint degree/minor in an quantitative/analytical field;
Demonstrated experience in manipulating and leveraging massive amounts of data to derive actionable insights;
Knowledge of equity and derivative instruments that are traded on venues owned by TMX Markets (Options, Futures, Equities);
1 to 5 years of Data Visualization Experience;
1 to 5 years of Database + SQL experience;
Experience with Presto, Spark, Hive, Athena;
Experience working with AWS (Athena, EMR, S3, EC2, etc);
Strategic thinking and planning experience, and ability to manage a project from inception to delivery and releasing solutions.
Programming languages such as Python, JavaScript, Perl or Java;
Statistical analysis languages such as R also an asset;
Experience working within an agile team environment;
Experience working in Capital Markets and/or fintech;
Tableau Certification.
Salary Range: 80,000/year -90,000/year CAD
