Who You Will Work With:  

The vacant Infrastructure Engineering, Senior Specialist role will report to the Leader, RTR Operations. The Infrastructure Engineer, Senior Specialist is an early career, engineering minded contributor within the Infrastructure Engineering team. This role is designed as a foundational step toward developing into a Senior or Lead Infrastructure Engineer. The Infrastructure Engineer learns through hands on work, close mentorship from senior team members, and exposure to multiple infrastructure domains—including compute, networking, storage, backup, and database platforms

This role emphasizes repeatable delivery, automation-first thinking, and building the technical and professional competencies required to support the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of enterprise grade infrastructure services.
 

What You Will Do:  

  • Support the delivery of infrastructure services across multiple domains by performing hands-on engineering tasks under the guidance of senior engineers.

  • Assist with environment setup, configuration changes, testing, and validation for infrastructure projects.

  • Learn core infrastructure engineering disciplines through pairing, shadowing, and guided work with senior and lead engineers.

  • Gain exposure to enterprise infrastructure technologies across on premises and cloud environments

  • Develop proficiency with automation tools, CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure provisioning, and observability fundamentals.

  • Apply an engineering led approach to problem-solving, focusing on root-cause analysis, simplicity, reusability, and long-term maintainability.

  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives by identifying recurring issues and proposing opportunities to automate, simplify, or better document infrastructure processes.

  • Help maintain and update infrastructure documentation, runbooks, and operational artifacts.

  • Collaborate with Infrastructure Engineering teammates, Operations, Platform teams, Enterprise Architecture, Security, and product aligned squads, consistent with the collaboration principles defined in team charters

  • Support more senior engineers during solution design discussions by gathering data, performing preliminary analysis, or drafting technical inputs.

  • Assist in troubleshooting infrastructure issues by performing initial diagnostics, gathering relevant logs and metrics, and escalating appropriately.

  • Participate in ensuring operational hygiene—backup validation, environment checks, patching cycles, asset updates—working closely with domain specialists.

  • Contribute to controlled changes following defined change management and incident management practices.

What You Bring: 

  • University Degree in Computer Science Engineering or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Strong interest in infrastructure engineering, systems design, automation, and technology problem solving.

  • Foundational understanding of operating systems, networking basics, cloud concepts, or scripting (academic, self taught, or early professional exposure).

  • Demonstrated engineering mindset—curiosity, analytical thinking, interest in designing things that are scalable and repeatable.

  • Ability to learn quickly in a fast-paced environment while working as part of a collaborative technical team.

  • Experience (academic or professional) with automation tools, scripting languages, or cloud platforms.

  • Exposure to infrastructure concepts such as virtualization, networking, storage, backup, or platform operations.

  • Experience working in agile, DevOps, or engineering squads

  • Eligibility to work for Interac Corp. in Canada in a full-time capacity. 

  • Willingness to learn new technologies and maintain industry knowledge.

  • Stay organized and deal with information from different sources simultaneously.

  • Open to new ideas and change initiatives, with an ability to modify the current approach in the face of new demands.

The hiring range for this position is $88,000 - $115,000, and you will also be eligible for our short-term incentive plan. The exact amount will depend on factors such as skills, experience, and job-related knowledge, but Interac’s commitment goes beyond compensation.
