Viamo is a leading for-profit social enterprise using mobile technology to connect underserved communities across emerging markets with life-changing information and services. Since 2013, our platform has delivered health, agriculture, education, and civic content to over 3 million people annually, primarily via basic mobile phones and local language voice services. We operate in 20+ countries, partnering with NGOs, businesses, and governments to enable positive impact at scale. In the coming years, we aim to reach 100 million people with 1 billion monthly benefits by 2028.
The Role: Board Director & Chair (Chair is ideal, but not required)
We seek an independent board member to serve as Chair, bringing strategic vision, governance expertise, and deep understanding of platform business models in emerging markets. This leader will guide Viamo through our next phase of growth, support our executive team, and ensure our mission and values remain central as we scale.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and facilitate (or participate in, if not Chair) four board meetings annually, with additional committee and advisory engagements as needed
- Foster an environment of strategic challenge, CEO mentorship, and collaborative decision-making
- Guide Viamo’s long-term strategy on platform development, market growth, and impact measurement
- Serve on at least one board committee (Audit, Compensation, or Impact) and support special initiatives
- Leverage networks to support executive recruitment and enterprise client development
- Champion diversity, equity, and inclusion at the board and organizational level
Term: 2 years, renewable

Profile
Required:
- Current Canadian resident (ideal)
- Prior board experience (governance, strategy, or committee leadership)
- Success as a senior executive in a high-growth technology business
- Firsthand knowledge of Viamo’s operating markets (telcos in emerging markets)
- Deep understanding of platform business models in emerging markets
