SecondShop is looking for a hands-on HR Business Partner who thrives in fast-moving, operational environments and enjoys being close to the business. This is a true generalist role with both strategic and day-to-day accountability. You will partner directly with leaders across the organisation while also rolling up your sleeves to manage employee relations, assist with recruitment, onboarding, performance conversations, and people systems.

This role suits someone who is equally comfortable advising senior managers as they are handling practical HR execution. You will be a visible, trusted presence in the Burlington office and play a key role in shaping employee experience, culture, and organisational effectiveness as the company continues to scale.

What You’ll Be Doing


  • Act as the primary HR partner for department leaders, providing practical guidance on performance management, workforce planning, and organisational design.
  • Support managers in handling sensitive employee matters including performance issues, disciplinary processes, and conflict resolution.
  • Help leaders build strong, engaged, and accountable teams aligned with company values.
  • Maintain compliant and up-to-date employment documentation, policies, and records.
  • Ensure adherence to various provincial employment standards and internal company policies.
  • Own onboarding and off-boarding processes to ensure smooth employee transitions.
  • Administer and optimise HR systems such as ATS and HRIS platforms.
  • Maintain accurate employee data and reporting dashboards.
  • Identify opportunities to streamline HR processes through automation and system improvements.
  • Support internal initiatives that strengthen culture, engagement, and communication.
  • Assist in the rollout of performance review cycles, learning initiatives, and recognition programmes.
  • Be a visible and approachable presence in the office, fostering trust and openness.


Who we're looking for

  • 4–7 years of progressive HR experience in a generalist or business partner capacity.
  • Strong knowledge of Ontario employment standards and practical HR compliance.
  • Demonstrated experience handling employee relations matters independently.
  • Experience managing recruitment and full employee lifecycle processes.
  • Comfortable working on-site in a fast-paced, operational business.
  • Proficiency with HRIS and ATS platforms; systems-minded and process-oriented.
  • Confident communicator who can influence and coach managers at different seniority levels.
  • Pragmatic, solutions-focused, and comfortable balancing strategic thinking with tactical execution.
  • Highly organised with strong follow-through and attention to detail.
