Highway Design Engineer – Eastern Canada Region


Parsons is seeking a Highway Design Engineer to support the delivery and growth of our transportation practice across Ontario. Reporting to the Area Manager – Highway Lead – Easter and Northern Ontario, and working under the direction of Project Managers and Senior Engineers, the successful candidate will bring 5 or more years of relevant highway engineering experience, including experience with MTO planning, design, and transportation infrastructure projects.


The role will involve supporting highway design activities for multidisciplinary assignments, from planning and preliminary design through detailed design and construction support. The successful candidate will work closely with project managers, engineers, designers, technical specialists, utilities, government agencies, and other stakeholders to deliver quality projects on schedule and within budget.

This opportunity is well suited to a highway engineer who has strong knowledge of MTO standards, is comfortable working on multidisciplinary teams, and is interested in developing a strong technical background, project coordination, and client-facing capabilities.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out or lead highway engineering activities for MTO and other transportation projects.
  • Prepare and support functional studies, preliminary designs, detailed designs, rehabilitation projects, and highway improvement assignments.
  • Contribute to the design of highway widenings, freeway expansions, interchanges, ramps, urban roads, and related transportation infrastructures.
  • Perform or coordinate roadway geometric design, grading, drainage, storm sewer, road safety, pavement marking, signage design.
  • Develop roadway models, design drawings, technical specifications, quantities, and construction cost estimates.
  • Support the preparation of tender packages, contract documents, technical reports, and design submissions.
  • Coordinate with internal disciplines, utility companies, regulatory agencies, municipalities, contractors, and other external stakeholders.
  • Assist with utility investigations, field reviews, construction staging, traffic control, and construction support activities.
  • Apply MTO design guidelines, standards, specifications, and policies to project deliverables.
  • Support the preparation of project schedules, work plans, budgets, resource requirements, and risk registers.
  • Identify design issues and assist in developing practical, cost-effective solutions.
  • Review drawings, calculations, reports, and other technical deliverables for accuracy, quality, and compliance.
  • Participate in client meetings and support communication with MTO and other transportation clients.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers, designers, and technical staff.
  • Contribute to proposals, work plans, methodologies, fee estimates, and other business development activities as required.


Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, with experience in transportation or highway engineering.
  • Professional Engineer designation and registration with Professional Engineers Ontario P.Eng.
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in highway or transportation engineering.
  • Demonstrated experience working on MTO planning, preliminary design, and/or detailed design projects.
  • Solid understanding of MTO design guidelines, standards, specifications, and approval processes.
  • Experience with highway geometric design, grading, drainage, utilities, contract documentation, and construction staging.
  • Proficiency with relevant design software, including OpenRoads, MicroStation, AutoCAD and ability to review and coordinate digital design models and technical deliverables.
  • Experience preparing design drawings, technical reports, quantities, cost estimates, and tender documents.
  • Ability to work simultaneously on different deliverables and meet project schedules and budgets.
  • Strong written and verbal communication, technical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with project managers and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Experience with other transportation agencies, municipalities, or public-sector clients is considered an asset.

Parsons est à la recherche d’un(e) ingénieur(e) en conception routière pour soutenir la réalisation de projets et contribuer à la croissance de notre pratique en transport à l’échelle de l’Ontario. Relevant du gestionnaire de secteur – Responsable du génie routier pour l’Est et le Nord de l’Ontario, et travaillant sous la direction des gestionnaires de projet et des ingénieurs principaux, la personne retenue possédera au moins 5 années d’expérience pertinente en ingénierie routière, notamment une expérience en planification, en conception et en réalisation de projets d’infrastructures de transport pour le ministère des Transports de l’Ontario (MTO).


Le poste consiste à réaliser et à soutenir des activités de conception routière dans le cadre de mandats multidisciplinaires, depuis la planification et la conception préliminaire jusqu’à la conception détaillée et au soutien pendant la construction. La personne titulaire travaillera en étroite collaboration avec les gestionnaires de projet, les ingénieurs, les concepteurs, les spécialistes techniques, les entreprises de services publics, les organismes gouvernementaux et les autres parties prenantes afin de livrer des projets de qualité, dans le respect des échéanciers et des budgets établis.


Cette occasion s’adresse à un(e) ingénieur(e) en génie routier qui possède une solide connaissance des normes du MTO, qui apprécie le travail au sein d’équipes multidisciplinaires et qui souhaite développer davantage son expertise technique, ses compétences en coordination de projets et ses aptitudes en communication avec les clients.


Responsabilités principales

  • Réaliser ou diriger des activités d’ingénierie routière pour des projets de transport du MTO et d’autres projets de transport.
  • Préparer et soutenir des études fonctionnelles, des conceptions préliminaires et détaillées, des projets de réhabilitation et des mandats d’amélioration routière.
  • Contribuer à la conception d’élargissements routiers, d’expansions d’autoroutes, d’échangeurs, de bretelles, de routes urbaines et d’infrastructures de transport connexes.
  • Réaliser ou coordonner la conception géométrique routière, la conception du nivellement, du drainage, des égouts pluviaux, de la sécurité routière, du marquage et de la signalisation.
  • Élaborer des modèles routiers, des dessins de conception, des devis techniques, des estimations de quantités et des estimations des coûts de construction.
  • Soutenir la préparation des dossiers d’appel d’offres, des documents contractuels, des rapports techniques et des documents de conception à soumettre aux clients.
  • Coordonner le travail avec les disciplines internes, les entreprises de services publics, les organismes de réglementation, les municipalités, les entrepreneurs et les autres parties prenantes externes.
  • Participer aux études et aux relevés liés aux services publics, aux inspections sur le terrain, à la planification des phases de construction, à la gestion de la circulation et aux activités de soutien pendant la construction.
  • Appliquer les lignes directrices, les normes, les spécifications et les politiques de conception du MTO aux livrables des projets.
  • Soutenir la préparation des échéanciers, des plans de travail, des budgets, des besoins en ressources et des registres de risques des projets.
  • Repérer les enjeux de conception et contribuer à l’élaboration de solutions pratiques et rentables.
  • Réviser les dessins, les calculs, les rapports et les autres livrables techniques afin d’en vérifier l’exactitude, la qualité et la conformité.
  • Participer aux réunions avec les clients et soutenir les communications avec le MTO et les autres clients du secteur des transports.
  • Fournir des conseils techniques et du mentorat aux ingénieurs juniors, aux concepteurs et au personnel technique.
  • Contribuer aux propositions, aux plans de travail, aux méthodologies, aux estimations d’honoraires et aux autres activités de développement des affaires, au besoin.

 

Exigences

  • Baccalauréat en génie civil, avec de l’expérience en ingénierie des transports ou en génie routier.
  • Être titulaire du titre d’ingénieur professionnel et être inscrit(e) à l’Ordre des ingénieurs de l’Ontario à titre de P.Eng.
  • Minimum de 5 années d’expérience pertinente en génie routier ou en ingénierie des transports.
  • Expérience démontrée dans le cadre de projets de planification, de conception préliminaire et/ou de conception détaillée pour le MTO.
  • Solide compréhension des lignes directrices, des normes, des spécifications et des processus d’approbation du MTO.
  • Expérience en conception géométrique routière, en nivellement, en drainage, en coordination des services publics, en préparation de documents contractuels et en planification des phases de construction.
  • Maîtrise des logiciels de conception pertinents, notamment OpenRoads, MicroStation et AutoCAD, ainsi que capacité à réviser et à coordonner des modèles de conception numériques et des livrables techniques.
  • Expérience dans la préparation de dessins de conception, de rapports techniques, d’estimations de quantités, d’estimations des coûts de construction et de documents d’appel d’offres.
  • Capacité à travailler simultanément sur plusieurs livrables et à respecter les échéanciers et les budgets des projets.
  • Excellentes aptitudes en communication écrite et verbale, ainsi que solides compétences techniques, analytiques et en résolution de problèmes.
  • Capacité à travailler de façon autonome tout en collaborant efficacement avec les gestionnaires de projet et les équipes multidisciplinaires.
  • L’expérience auprès d’autres organismes de transport, de municipalités ou de clients du secteur public constitue un atout.
