About the Role

We’re searching for a hands-on yet strategic data leader who will unify Float’s data foundation, raise organizational decision quality, deliver customer-facing insights, and become Float’s ambassador for clarity, truth, and AI-enabled innovation.

This role is responsible for building and scaling both Business Intelligence and Data Science, defining Float’s long-term data architecture, enabling teams through better literacy and self-serve capabilities, and partnering closely with Product, Engineering, Finance, and the Executive Team.

If you’re energized by building from 0 → 1, simplifying complexity, leading high-performing teams, and shaping how an entire organization consumes and acts on data — this is the place to do it.

What You’ll Be Responsible ForBuild and Lead Float’s Data Organization

  • Define operating rhythms, rituals, and measurement frameworks for the team.

  • Build a culture of truth-seeking, clarity, and high-quality insight generation.

Unify Float’s Data Architecture
  • Design and implement a reliable source of truth across all major data systems.

  • Eliminate conflicting definitions and inconsistent reporting across teams.

  • Improve data ingestion, modeling, tooling, governance, and documentation.

Raise Organizational Decision Quality
  • Partner with LT to deliver concise, actionable insights for strategy and execution.

  • Design the frameworks for how information reaches founders, customers, board, and teams.

  • Improve cross-functional alignment through clear data narratives.

Deliver Customer-Facing Insights
  • Work with Product + Engineering to build powerful analytics and intelligence features.

  • Leverage DS/ML to create differentiated value across the platform.

Enable the Business (Self-Serve + Literacy)
  • Raise data literacy through education, tooling, and enablement programs.

  • Reduce ad-hoc dependency through scalable self-serve capabilities.

Shape Float’s AI Strategy
  • Identify high-ROI opportunities for AI across operations, insights, and product.

  • Build and lead the roadmap for applied AI across BI, DS, and product intelligence.

About YouHere’s what sets you up for success at Float:
  • You Put Customers First, Always. You care deeply about delivering meaningful value. Whether you're building internal systems or customer-facing features, you're always thinking about how to make life better for our users.

  • You Act Like an Owner. You take responsibility for outcomes, step up to challenges, and seek solutions proactively—doing what’s best for the business, not just your role.

  • You Think Big and Move Fast. You’re energized by building from 0 to 1. You’re not afraid to challenge the status quo, experiment quickly, and learn as you go.

  • You Constantly Learn and Grow. You’re hungry to improve your craft and open to feedback. You bring a growth mindset to everything you do.

  • You Raise the Bar. You care about doing things well and efficiently. You balance speed with rigor and always look for ways to improve how we work.

  • You Win as a Team. You’re a generous collaborator who values communication, context, and shared wins. You lift others up and help make the team stronger.

In addition to living our values, you bring:
  • 10+ years in Data, Analytics, Data Science, or related leadership roles

  • Experience unifying disparate data systems and delivering a high-quality source of truth

  • Strong foundations in BI, DS, and modern data tooling (DBT, Python/Pandas, SQL, Mixpanel, etc.)

  • Demonstrated ability to build teams, define charters, and scale data organizations

  • Exceptional communication and storytelling skills — especially with executives

  • Experience with customer-facing analytics or DS-driven product features

  • A track record of raising data literacy and enabling teams through documentation and tooling

  • AI literacy and practical experience applying ML/AI in real-world environments

  • Startup or growth-stage experience, with evidence of increasing scope and trust

This may not be the role for you if…
  • You prefer reporting over insight generation

  • You are uncomfortable operating in ambiguity or building from scratch

  • You resist change or modern data/AI tooling

  • You prefer academic DS over practical business impact

  • You rely heavily on direction instead of creating clarity

Why You Should Join
  • Work at one of Canada's fastest-growing fintech companies

  • Make a real impact in a high-autonomy, high-growth role

  • Collaborate with an ambitious and supportive team

  • Competitive compensation, equity options, and benefits

  • Hybrid work model – we are based in Toronto with in-office days for connection and collaboration

  • Enjoy catered team lunches every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday

  • Bring your pup to our dog-friendly office

  • Thrive in a high-trust, high-performance culture where your work truly matters

In Short

At Float, you’ll thrive if you’re bold, curious, and eager to make a real impact. We're building something special—and having a lot of fun along the way. If you’re excited to build, grow, and win together, we’d love to meet you.

We’re committed to building a workplace that’s welcoming and accessible for everyone. If you need any accommodations during the hiring process or once you join Float, just let us know! You can reach out to Vic ([email protected]), and we’ll work with you to make sure you have what you need to succeed.
