Job Description:

Department Overview:

Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) is responsible for building organizational capability in managing risk on a more integrated and comprehensive basis for the organization and for promoting a strong risk culture within TD. The team is accountable for the development and implementation of an enterprise risk management strategy, governance, policies and practices, reporting and operating frameworks, and operations associated with the Risk Management function.

TD applies the “Three Lines of Defence” model to risk management as defined in the Enterprise Risk Framework. As part of the second line of defence, the ERM team assures the appropriate design, implementation, and/or execution of (applicable components of) the TD risk management framework. ERM collaborates with a broad network of business and risk management practitioners and other corporate functions in all jurisdictions where the Bank has business activities.

Job Description:

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Enterprise Risk Management, the Group Risk Specialist will operate in a forward deployed capacity to support implementation and execution of ERM programs and represent ERM on new initiatives across Risk Management. The Group Risk Specialist will ensure programs and processes are aligned and integrated with the Enterprise Risk Framework and other relevant frameworks.

Via the forward deployed model, the Group Risk Specialist will lead and/or support ERM across the following areas:

  • Development and implementation of new ERM programs including corresponding change management activities
  • Alignment with concurrent enterprise initiatives such as the Enterprise Governance Risk and Control (eGRC) program
  • Execution of ERM operations including annual refreshes, delivery of existing programs, reporting routines and oversight and monitoring to assess business adherence to ERM programs.
  • Delivery of business-as-usual ERM activities (e.g., stakeholder communication, assessment, reporting, etc.) during peak periods
  • Development and review of enterprise-wide frameworks, policies, standards, procedures in coordination with management in line with TD's Risk Program.
  • Advancement ERM owned frameworks, policies and related governance and procedural documents in line with ERM's strategic direction
  • Alignment to existing and future regulatory requirements as well as interpreting and monitoring changes to relevant regulations where ERM has primary oversight accountabilities.
  • The scope of these activities is enterprise-wide and includes interaction with stakeholders across Risk Management, other Corporate Functions, and all business segments, including the US.
  • Management of ERM plans, timelines, activities, and deliverables, interacting with stakeholders and the broader ERM team
  • Identification and problem resolution for program requirements, issues, and/or internal audit findings and non-compliance issues.
  • Engagement of stakeholders to take action, serve as a source of expert advice, influence change and frame information in a broader context.
  • Escalation of issues and concerns related to non-compliance as needed and work with the ERM team and/or stakeholders for resolution.

  • Identifies, mitigates, and reports on risk issues per enterprise policies / guidelines and ensures appropriate escalation processes are followed.
  • Works closely with key business leaders and reports to optimize TDBG’s resources and leverage TD’s operating model to maximize efficiency, effectiveness and scale.

  • Experience developing and executing on change and delivering superior results in both the short and long term
  • Demonstrated ability to 'know your audience' and communicate (written and verbal) and interact effectively with stakeholders and Leadership.
  • Strong collaborator with proven ability to engage, influence and motivate a diverse group of stakeholders and drive results
  • Flexible and adaptable with robust organizational skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple deadlines and priorities
  • Superior impact and influence skills coupled with the ability to navigate a complex matrix organization, and the ability to instinctively engage others to achieve positive business outcomes.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to proactively identify risks / issues and recommend solutions
  • Project and portfolio management experience
  • Change management experience is an asset
  • Governance & Control and/or Risk Management experience is an asset
