Overview of Your Role:
The GM Canada Sr. Tax Analyst is responsible for supporting GM's indirect tax filings, including preparing support for the filings and making final payments to the government. This role will also support the income tax team during the annual income tax filing process. This person is also responsible for supporting compliance with both income and indirect tax audits and will have responsibility for supporting SOX compliance with respect to certain aspects of financial accounting processes and the financial reporting of taxes.
Your Responsibilities:

  • Leading indirect tax filings to support the accurate reporting of indirect taxes paid to the Canadian governments
  • Supporting the income tax team with the annual Canadian income tax filings
  • Assisting in tax planning, including building and updating planning and tax analytic models
  • Assisting in the management of direct and indirect tax audits, including drafting responses to government inquires and analysis of audit workpapers
  • Operating Sarbanes Oxley 404 tax controls and supporting related testing
  • Partnering with business units and other departments within Corporate Finance to ensure the accuracy of tax provisions, returns and financial statement balances
  • Providing support in the review and analysis of proposed and existing tax laws, regulations, and rulings
  • Working on special, cross-functional projects with the international tax organization


Additional Description
Required

  • CPA with 4+ years of tax experience (including indirect tax)
  • Well-developed computer and tax system skills. i.e., Experience with finance enterprise systems and tax provision / compliance systems (e.g., SAP, OneSource)
  • Self-motivated, with strong interpersonal, team and partnering skills


Preferred

  • Master's degree in Taxation or Accounting; other advanced degree or training


Location:
In-person collaboration is immensely valuable for this Hybrid role, so an average of three days in-office per week is required. Location will be split between OEC and MEC sites depending on where stakeholders are on a given day.
