We are looking for a motivated candidate for a Full Stack Data Engineer role with 4 to 8 years of experience to join our team in balance sheet and regulatory reporting department at Morgan Stanley in Montreal. These roles offer the chance to work with a cutting-edge tech stack and tackle complex, high-impact projects in the financial sector. The department delivers technology to report the firm’s balance sheet externally to multi-jurisdictional Regulators as well as internally to the firm’s controllers and business units. It builds and supports the platform and functionality to comply with new and enhanced regulatory mandates; solve for operational risks and challenges in the report production; and renovate the platform with focus on efficiency, simplification, consolidation and modernization.

This is a Software Engineering III position at Associate level, which is part of the job family responsible for developing and maintaining software solutions that support business needs.

What you’ll do in the role:

As member of a local squad in Montreal and a global fleet, the successful candidate will be responsible for building end-to-end systems from data sourcing to calculations to reporting using cutting-edge big data technologies (Apache Spark, Azure Databricks, Airflow, Snowflake, etc.) for ingestion and loading, processing and reporting to produce the firm’s balance sheet daily (multiple times a day). As a member of a global fleet, the successful candidate will get the opportunity to interact with remote teams across the globe. The successful candidate should be self-motivated, passionate and results-oriented who is keen to learn new technologies and open to acquire finance business knowledge. The hiring team follows an agile development methodology, with particular focus on test driven development and DevOps best practices.

What you’ll bring to the role:

  • At least 5 years+ relevant experience in Java/Scala, Python and SQL.

  • At least 3 years+ relevant experience in large-scale data processing engines like Apache Spark or cloud compute technologies like Azure Databricks preferably.

  • At least 3 years+ relevant experience in cloud technologies (Azure, AWS or GCP).

  • At least 3 years+ relevant experience in building data pipelines and in ETL/ELT development using Airflow preferably.

  • At least 4 years+ relevant experience in databases technologies: Snowflake, DB2 and Teradata preferably.

  • At least 5 years+ relevant experience in DevOps automation and CI/CD pipelines.

  • Knowledge of Power BI reporting is a plus.

  • Experience with machine learning and GenAI is a big plus.

Non-technical Skills:

  • Good problem solving and analytical skills.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to collaborate and interact with a global team and to deliver following strict timelines.
