Altera is seeking an experienced FPGA Development Tools Engineer to join its Benchmarking Team. This role focuses on developing, maintaining, and optimizing FPGA design flows, tools, and benchmarks used to evaluate Altera FPGA platforms, software tools, and IP against industry standards and competitive solutions. The ideal candidate will have strong FPGA design expertise, hands-on experience with FPGA development tools, and a passion for performance analysis and methodology development.
Key ResponsibilitiesDevelop, implement, and maintain FPGA benchmarking frameworks to evaluate FPGA architectures, IP, and development tools
Design and optimize FPGA reference designs and workloads used for performance, power, and resource utilization benchmarking
Collaborate with architecture, software, and marketing teams to define benchmark requirements, use cases, and metrics
Analyze benchmarking results, identify performance bottlenecks, and provide actionable insights and recommendations
Support competitive analysis by developing reproducible and defensible benchmarking methodologies
Automate benchmarking flows using scripting and CI-friendly environments
Document benchmarking methodologies, results, and best practices for internal stakeholders
Contribute to tool flow improvements by providing feedback to FPGA tool development teams
Stay current with industry benchmarks, standards, and emerging FPGA workloads
Our compensation is designed to reflect the Canadian labour market. The actual salary offered may vary based on several factors, including the position’s location, as well as the candidate’s experience, skills, training, and job-specific knowledge. In addition to base salary, we offer performance-based incentive opportunities that reward both individual contributions and overall company success.
Estimated Salary Range: $100K – $115K CAD

Qualifications:Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field
1+ years' experience with FPGA design and development
Proficiency with FPGA development tools (e.g., synthesis, place-and-route, timing analysis, simulation)
Experience with HDL languages such as Verilog and/or VHDL
Other good skills/knowledge to have:
Experience with Altera FPGA devices and toolchains
Familiarity with industry benchmarks and performance evaluation methodologies
Experience with hardware acceleration, HPC, AI/ML, networking, or embedded workloads on FPGAs
