Our Toronto headquarters is home to our Corporate Services Team that manages our Global Finance, HR, Travel, IT & back-office support functions. The Corporate Services team operates similar to a shared service model where we support our internal and external stakeholders and colleagues on a range of activities to ensure our business runs as efficiently as possible.

Financial Controller, Toronto Office

The Financial Controller oversees all financial operations across the company’s legal entities and ensures accurate reporting, strong internal controls, and compliance with Canadian, US regulatory requirements. This role is both strategic and hands‑on, supporting leadership with financial insights while managing day‑to‑day accounting, treasury, budgeting, and cross‑border financial processes.

The ideal candidate thrives in a dynamic, professional‑services environment, understands multi‑entity and multi‑currency operations, and can build scalable financial processes for a fast-growing consulting firm.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Operations & Reporting

  • Lead full‑cycle accounting for Canadian, US, International entities including month‑end, quarter‑end, and year‑end close.
  • Prepare consolidated financial statements in accordance with GAAP (depending on company standards).
  • Manage multi‑currency accounting, intercompany transactions, eliminations, and transfer pricing.
  • Manage and oversee the daily accounting functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger activities.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles, accounts payable/receivable management, payroll processing, and account reconciliation.
  • Maintain the general ledger and ensure accuracy, completeness, and timely reporting.
  • Proven experience with accounting software QuickBooks.

Budgeting, Forecasting & Analysis

  • Develop annual budgets and rolling forecasts in partnership with executive leadership.
  • Provide financial analysis on revenue, margins, utilization, and project profitability.
  • Monitor cash flow, forecast financial trends, and assist in budgeting processes to support organizational growth.
  • Support scenario planning and financial modelling for strategic initiatives.
  • Ensure accurate account reconciliation and account analysis to maintain the integrity of financial data.
  • Implement and maintain effective accounting software system QuickBooks.

Compliance, Tax & Review Engagement

  • Coordinate external Review for all jurisdictions.
  • Ensure compliance with CRA, IRS, and other International regulatory compliance requirements.
  • Oversee sales tax, VAT, payroll tax, and corporate tax filings (with external advisors).
  • Maintain internal controls and ensure adherence to financial policies and procedures.

Systems, Processes & Leadership

  • Optimize accounting systems, financial workflows, and reporting tools.
  • Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to interpret complex financial data and communicate findings clearly to stakeholders.
  • Implement scalable processes to support growth across multiple countries.
  • Manage and mentor a small finance team or outsourced accounting partners.
  • Partner with HR and Operations on payroll, benefits, and cross‑border employment considerations.
  • Support leadership with financial insights for pricing, compensation planning, and operational decisions.

Qualifications

Required

  • CPA designation (CA, CMA, CGA, or equivalent).
  • 7+ years of progressive accounting/finance experience, including multi‑entity consolidation.
  • Strong knowledge of Canadian accounting standards; familiarity with US GAAP and EU/Irish requirements is an asset.
  • Experience in professional services or project‑based businesses.
  • Proficiency with accounting systems (e.g., QuickBooks, NetSuite, Sage Intacct) and advanced Excel/Sheets skills.
  • Strong understanding of multi‑currency accounting and cross‑border payroll/tax considerations.

Preferred

  • Experience working in a small to mid‑sized, high‑growth company.
  • Background in management consulting, IT consulting, or similar industries.
  • Experience managing outsourced accounting or fractional finance teams.
  • Ability to build processes, improve systems, and introduce financial best practices.

  • Excellent communication skills, able to work with stakeholders across Canada, US, UK, and EU.

Education and Experience*

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Accounting, or an equivalent field.
  • CPA designation, or currently in the process of obtaining a designation.*
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a financial management/leadership role including hands-on experience with all related areas of finance, accounting and payroll.
  • An equivalent combination of lived and cultural experience with at least 8 years of professional experience may be considered.

Our Financial Controller role is based 5 days a week in our George Street head office.
