Job Description

We are looking for a detail-oriented and team-oriented Finance Staff Accountant to join our Finance department. This role is responsible for owning day-to-day accounting activities through to the trial balance stage, ensuring accuracy and compliance with accounting principles, and contributing ideas to improve our processes. The ideal candidate takes ownership of their work, communicates proactively with the team, and is comfortable both executing routine tasks and flagging opportunities for improvement.

Revenue Recognition & Invoicing (primary focus):

  • Generate, review, and issue customer invoices accurately and on schedule.
  • Apply revenue recognition principles to ensure revenue is recorded in the correct period, including deferred revenue and unbilled revenue schedules.
  • Reconcile billing records against contracts, sales orders, and liaise with delivery team to ensure invoices are accurate and complete.
  • Investigate and resolve invoicing discrepancies, disputes, and billing inquiries.
  • Maintain deferred revenue and accounts receivable schedules; track billing milestones and contract terms.
  • Identify manual, error-prone, or repetitive steps in the current revenue/invoicing process and propose or implement improvements (templates, automation, better use of ERP/billing software, standardized workflows).
  • Partner with Sales/Customer Success to ensure contract terms are correctly reflected in billing and revenue recognition.

General Accounting:

  • Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts, ensuring all entries are accurate, complete, and properly supported.
  • Support month-end and year-end close activities.
  • Collaborate closely with colleagues across the finance team and other departments; escalate issues proactively and follow through on commitments.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience in an accounting role, ideally with hands-on exposure to revenue recognition and/or billing/invoicing, solid understanding of fundamental accounting principles, including revenue recognition concepts.
  • Post-secondary degree/diploma in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; working towards CPA is an asset.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy —especially important given the volume of manual invoicing this role will manage.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage recurring billing deadlines.
  • A collaborative, team-first attitude paired with personal accountability for outcomes.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills, and proficiency in Excel.
