We are looking for an Executive Editor to join our Range team at Ensemble. Reporting to the Editorial Director, the Executive Editor will help produce immersive, award-winning print and digital content for Ensemble’s travel and lifestyle media brand, Range. The ideal candidate is an experienced editor and storyteller with a passion for crafting compelling copy and display, engaging audiences on print and digital platforms, and collaborating with innovative ideas in a fast-paced, dynamic team environment.  

The Executive Editor oversees production for Range, Range Best, Range directories and related B2C content, runs daily check-in meetings, ensures deadlines are met and acts as the conduit between fact-checkers, copyeditors and proofreaders. The Executive Editor also helps act as the guardian of the Range tone and voice, assists with editorial pitch meetings and lineups, and contributes by ideating, writing and editing dynamic content that meets the highest editorial standards across all platforms.  

Primary Responsibilities 

  • Oversee production for Range, Range Best, Range directories and related B2C content. 
  • Lead daily check-in meetings, ensure deadlines are met and traffic copy to fact-checkers, copyeditors and proofreaders. 
  • Commission stories — everything from FOB pieces and service-y, SEO-driven digital articles to in-depth features and lively editorial packages — and edit for accuracy, flow, grammar and style. 
  • Research story ideas on an on-going basis; ensure Range stays on top of trends, openings, launches and more. 
  • Help develop editorial lineups and lead display copy conversations. 
  • Develop ideas for stories, series and formats on all platforms in collaboration with the editorial team; innovate and experiment with new forms of storytelling and editorial packaging.  
  • Vet and shape story ideas from contributors as well as junior staff. 
  • Work with the art team to ensure the Range look and feel exceeds expectations.  
  • Grow and maintain a roster of international writers, as well as scouting new, diverse talent. 
  • Consult on, and contribute to, other B2C initiatives, such as newsletters and directories.  
  • Contribute to Range’s social channels to grow our social presence and engage with our audience. 
  • Work with our partner relations team to brainstorm and create engaging paid partner content and campaigns. 
  • Foster and grow relationships with PR representatives around the world. 
  • Travel as needed for both internal and external meetings, events and editorial opportunities. 
  • Replace the Editorial Director as the final decision maker when needed. 

Qualifications  

  • College or university degree in journalism or related field.  
  • Minimum seven years’ experience in senior editorial roles, with published clips demonstrating exceptional storytelling ranging from service pieces to thought-provoking print and digital features.  
  • Strong attention to detail, superior organizational and time management skills. 
  • An impeccable grasp of the finer points of both structural and line editing. 
  • Expertise in both narrative and service journalism and in adapting and coordinating ideas across multiple platforms and touchpoints. 
  • Excellent packaging and display-writing skills and the ability to edit and refine writing to create an immersive, high-quality reading experience.  
  • Sound knowledge of social media and SEO best practices and a proven ability to create compelling content across multiple platforms.
