What you'll be doing

CIBC’s Electronic Trading Group is a leader in electronic execution, delivering algorithmic equity trading solutions, direct market access, and advanced tools that help clients implement strategies and achieve best execution. As an Executive Director, Electronic Trading Sales, you’ll drive the growth of our Canadian electronic trading franchise by building and deepening relationships with institutional asset managers, pension plans, and hedge funds. You’ll act as a trusted advisor, helping clients navigate electronic execution, market structure, liquidity access, and evolving regulatory considerations. Working closely with partners across trading, technology, and product, you’ll bring forward tailored solutions that support client outcomes and business growth. You’ll also contribute strategic insight that helps shape the continued evolution of CIBC’s electronic trading platform in Canada.

The expected annualized base salary for this role is $180,000.
The base salary is determined by a variety of factors, including the candidate’s skills, experience, and job-related knowledge, as well as geographic location and specific business needs. Our compensation philosophy supports ongoing growth and development, enabling progression within the salary range as team members advance in their roles.
In addition to base pay, compensation for this role includes participation in an annual discretionary incentive or bonus program.

How you'll succeed

  • Client origination and relationship management - Develop and execute strategies to win, grow, and retain relationships across the Canadian buy-side landscape. Build strong connections with portfolio managers, traders, desk heads, and other execution decision-makers by understanding their trading objectives and aligning solutions to their needs.
  • Sales execution and revenue growth - Promote CIBC’s electronic trading capabilities, including algorithmic strategies, smart order routing, transaction cost analysis, and execution consulting analytics. Use data-driven insights to help clients improve execution outcomes while contributing to revenue growth, client activity, and franchise penetration goals.
  • Market structure leadership - Serve as a subject matter expert on Canadian equity market structure, including lit and dark venues, marketplace rules, order types, best execution considerations, and regulatory developments. Engage clients in strategic conversations and translate market changes into clear, actionable insights.
  • Strategic platform development - Share market intelligence and client feedback to inform product enhancements, algorithm development, and platform evolution. Help identify new growth opportunities across client segments, workflow solutions, and execution offerings relevant to the Canadian market.
  • Cross-functional collaboration - Partner with global sales and trading teams, as well as colleagues across High Touch Equities Sales Trading, Program Trading, Prime Brokerage, and Derivatives, to deliver a seamless client experience and strengthen CIBC’s market presence across products.
  • Governance and risk management - Champion responsible finance, sound governance, and ethical conduct in all aspects of your work. Collaborate with Legal, Operations, Compliance, Technology, Credit, and Risk teams to support the client and trade lifecycle while ensuring adherence to internal policies, market rules, and regulatory standards.

Who you are

  • You have relevant experience. You bring 8+ years of progressive sales experience in electronic and algorithmic trading within a major investment bank, broker-dealer, or trading platform. You have a strong track record of originating and managing relationships with Canadian institutional asset managers, pension plans, and hedge funds.
  • You give meaning to data. You have deep expertise in electronic trading products, Canadian equity market structure, market microstructure, and algorithmic execution strategies. You’re confident interpreting liquidity fragmentation, venue analysis, routing logic, transaction cost analysis, and execution performance to support client conversations and business decisions.
  • Your influence makes a difference. You’ve built a strong network and reputation among Canadian buy-side trading and investment professionals. You communicate with credibility and clarity, and you’re skilled at presenting complex market structure and execution concepts in a way that resonates with clients and internal partners.
  • You act like an owner. You bring an entrepreneurial mindset and a demonstrated ability to build, grow, and scale client business opportunities. You’re proactive, highly motivated, and comfortable working independently while managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • You have a degree/diploma in Business, Mathematics, Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • You’re a certified professional. You have current accreditation and are in good standing as an Investment Representative (IR) with Canadian Investment Regulatory Organization - Investment Dealer (CIRO-ID). It’s an asset if  you also hold the CIRO Derivatives license or hold U.S. regulatory registrations such as Series 7 or Series 63.
