What You’ll Be Doing

We provide integrated capital markets products, investment banking advisory services, corporate lending and top-ranked research to corporate, government and institutional clients around the world. Our goal is to be the leading Capital Markets franchise in Canada and the lead relationship bank for key clients globally. CIBC Clearing delivers wholesale clearing solutions and associated services to broker dealers, portfolio managers and other market participants to meet the regulatory, trading, and post-trade needs of today’s most sophisticated clients across multiple asset classes.

This role sits within Clearing and will lead the multi-year build-out and expansion of CIBC’s clearing offering into the Canadian wealth space—specifically targeting Independent Private Investment Counsellors (PICs) and adjacent independent wealth channels (independent investment advisors and portfolio managers). The successful candidate will leverage CIBC’s market-leading equity and prime brokerage franchises as strategic enablers (distribution, client connectivity, market expertise), while the program scope is focused on expanding the Clearing offering and its supporting service and operating model.

The Executive Director will be accountable for the vision, strategy and end-to-end delivery leadership of a new Clearing-led offering tailored to the Independent PIC / independent wealth segment. This role will serve as the internal and external “voice of the offering,” aligning stakeholders, shaping the target operating model, and driving execution across a multi-year program.

  • Own the product vision and segment strategy: define the target proposition, scope, client profiles, value proposition and go-to-market approach for the Independent PIC segment within the Canadian wealth ecosystem.

  • Define and maintain the target operating model (TOM) and service model: translate PIC and underlying client needs into a scalable market leading solution, including governance, control framework and clear ownership across partners.

  • Work with a cross-functional delivery team and broader stakeholder network: partner with program/project managers, product managers, business analysts and subject matter experts to drive requirements, prioritization, delivery and readiness.

  • Drive alignment across both Capital Markets and Wealth internal partners including: Operations, Technology, Compliance, AML, Legal, Risk and other control functions.

  • Lead external engagement and ecosystem build: work with regulators, third-party vendors, consultants and market infrastructure partners to support design decisions and delivery.

  • Own business cases and product economics: develop and maintain financial models, pricing approach, and investment cases; ensure the offering remains economically viable and competitive as it evolves.

  • Represent the offering internally and externally: educate internal stakeholders, support client engagement and industry dialogue, and chair/participate in governance forums as required.

At CIBC we enable the work environment most optimal for you to thrive in your role. To successfully perform the work, you’ll be on-site full-time.

The expected annualized base salary for this role is $175,000.
The base salary is determined by a variety of factors, including the candidate’s skills, experience, and job-related knowledge, as well as geographic location and specific business needs. Our compensation philosophy supports ongoing growth and development, enabling progression within the salary range as team members advance in their roles.
In addition to base pay, compensation for this role includes participation in an annual discretionary incentive or bonus program.
We are committed to providing fair, equitable, and competitive compensation opportunities for all employees and we encourage open conversations about compensation throughout the recruitment process.

How You’ll Succeed

  • Clearing Offering - Deliver a market-competitive, compliant clearing offering tailored to the Independent PIC / independent wealth segment, aligned to the realities of the Canadian wealth operating environment.

  • Client Service - Translate client needs into executable requirements and a delivery roadmap, balancing speed-to-market, control requirements and scalability.

  • Stakeholder Relationships - Build strong alignment and sustained engagement across Capital Markets and Wealth stakeholders, with clear decisioning and governance.

  • Risk Management - Proactively manage risks and dependencies (regulatory, operational, technology and vendor), escalating early and driving mitigations to closure.

  • Leadership - Lead and empower a delivery ecosystem (program/project managers, product managers, BAs and SMEs) with clear priorities, accountability and outcomes.

  • Vision and Growth - Maintain and evolve the proposition over time based on market trends, competitive dynamics and regulatory change.

Success Measures (12–24 month horizon)

  • Success in this role will be measured by delivery of outcomes across strategy, build readiness, stakeholder alignment and phased commercialization. Example measures include:

  • Vision and segment strategy approved: defined value proposition, target client profiles, scope boundaries (clearing-led), and a phased roadmap with clear benefits and economics.

  • Target operating model and service model established end-to-end, including controls, roles and responsibilities across Capital Markets and Wealth partners.

  • Program governance and delivery cadence in place: integrated plan, resourcing model (PM/PGM, product, BA, SMEs), decision forums and escalation paths operating effectively.

  • Requirements and solution options matured: prioritized requirements backlog, solution architecture direction(s), and vendor strategy (build/buy/partner) supported by a defensible business case.

  • Regulatory and control-function alignment demonstrated: documented engagement plan and evidence of proactive alignment with regulators and internal Compliance/AML/Legal/Risk partners.

  • Operational readiness achieved for initial phase(s): documented procedures, training, client onboarding approach, service desk/escalations and performance metrics established.

  • Early commercialization progress: qualified pipeline of PIC prospects and at least one pilot/early adopter in active onboarding or confirmed readiness (subject to governance approvals).

Who You Are

  • You have attained a Business/Accounting degree and/or recognized professional designation (e.g., MBA, CPA) or equivalent experience and extensive knowledge of the financial services industry.

  • You can demonstrate 10+ years progressive industry experience in relevant areas (clearing/custody, capital markets, wealth brokerage platforms, post-trade/operations, product leadership, or closely related roles).

  • You can demonstrate deep understanding of the Canadian wealth industry with client-centric knowledge of how Private Investment Counsellors (PICs) operate, including the needs of their operational and administrative teams.

  • You have acquired strong knowledge of correspondent clearing and broker models, including introducing and carrying broker relationships, and how these differ from provincially-regulated wealth/PIC arrangements.

  • You can demonstrate proven track record leading multi-year initiatives and building new offerings (0→1), including operating model build, vendor integration, governance and commercialization.

  • You have proven ability to lead through influence in complex matrix environments and to drive outcomes across technology, operations, front office and control functions.

  • You have strong judgment and ownership mindset; comfortable setting vision, creating structure where it does not exist, and knowing when to escalate.

  • You have advanced communication, interpersonal and presentation skills with the ability to engage senior stakeholders and represent the business externally.

  • Values matter to you. You bring your real self to work and you live our values – trust, teamwork, and accountability.
