The Environmental Engineer will be a Qualified Person (QP) and will primarily be responsible for supporting management of excess soils, oversight of contaminated soils removal and disposal, and management of water during construction. The role includes all phases of Project work from approvals and pre-construction through to construction, operation, and abandonment.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide regulatory guidance and oversight of activities associated with construction projects under Ontario Regulation 409/19, Excess Soils, Ontario Regulation 387/04, Permit to Take Water and Ontario Regulation 153/04 Records of Site Condition.
- Prepare required assessments and reports as a QP to meet regulatory requirements and complete filings and registrations with Ontario Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks.
- Prepare drainage assessments, discharge management plans, erosion and sediment control plans, and stormwater management plans to meet regulatory requirements in Ontario.
- Manage the technical, schedule and budget aspects of QP services on projects.
- Act as a resource in the field for projects when required.
- Provide peer review of technical reports, lab analyses and other supporting documentation.
Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education
- Post-secondary degree in Engineering, Geology, or related field of study.
- Experience related to pipeline, transmission line and renewable energy construction would be an asset.
- Professional Engineer or Professional Geologist designation in Ontario is required.
Experience
- Minimum of 5 years professional experience in Environmental Engineering in Ontario.
Knowledge/Skills
- Knowledge of provincial and federal regulations including Ontario Regulation 409/19, Excess Soils, Ontario Regulation 387/04, Permit to Take Water and Ontario Regulation 153/04 Records of Site Condition
- Knowledge of managing contaminated sites and soils, as well as risk assessment and remediation.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills – data collection and interpretation, technical report writing, regulatory permit applications, client communications, etc.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving skills, prioritizing and decision-making skills.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple responsibilities simultaneously with minimal supervision.
- Detail-oriented, self-motivated, and highly organized with strong problem-solving skills.
- Ability to build strong, lasting relationships with key stakeholders.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
Licenses/Accreditations
- Valid Driver’s License, with ability to maintain insurability under the company’s insurance carrier
- Qualified Person (QP) in Ontario.
